My next vocal chain!

I want to get myself I really good vocal chain for rap and song, but I'm on a budget. I have a SE electronics Icis which I actually like a lot and I'm getting an SM7 or RE20 and maybe another condenser.

This is my plan:
Preamp: A-Designs P-1 and compressor: dbx160a.

What do you think? Is there anything else in the same price range that I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds fine to me... either that or an API 512c.

My chain is an AT4050 - APi 512 - Distressor. It's simple and easy to use. Even I cant make it sound bad. I would definitley recommend it to anybody.

I would need to get some kind of lunchbox for the p-1 or the api 512c right? What is the cheapest solution?

get the API lunchbox.
it's durable, it's reliable, and it costs about the same as the 2-slot units from Avedis and A-Designs, yet you can fit in 6 modules.

cheers.

I got mine from a company in Nashville called ''Rack-N-Roll Audio''. They were awesome and gave me the best deal. Maybe you should call them and get them to answer some more detailed questions. I'm sure they have a website. And yes, you would have to get a lunchbox, but you dont have to fill it up to use it.

I was thinking since I would have to get a lunchbox for the P1 or api 512c, maybe I should get the api 525 comp instead of the dbx160.
Has anyone tried this chain? P1 or api 512c to api 525?
How would that work do you think?

Oh, and is the BAE lunchbox better than the API lunchbox?
With the BAE the power supply is seperate from the box. Does this improve the sound?
