| Gear Head | $1000 to spend, recommendations? I record and engineer my own songs, plus i am still gettin acquainted with the producing. I am currently using AUDACITY, FRUITYLOOPS and a cheap mic from best buy, however my engineering makes it tolerable(myspace.com/yaboysuccess). i am on a dell pc. i will soon have $1000 extra to spend . what should i buy in order to make my own demo that i will be sending out?? any suggestions are appreciated. feedback on my myspace promo songs will also be helpful. thanks alot slutz!

| how are you getting audio into the computer? what's your interface? how powerful is your computer? clearly you need a mic...but depending on what else you need, it's hard to say what mic...and what else...all for under 1k. what do you feel is lacking the most in your recordings? like, where do you want it to sound better? the tracks, the vocals? do you want more software? more sounds? how far to you want to make this 1k bux go? | on a budget, I would look at the DBX 286 mic pre, a decent sound card, and some decent monitors, I have been using the ST6's by KRK, they are 100 each, but if you need powered then theres others, for a mic on a budget, I would look at an Audio Technica 2020 or maybe a Octava 310 which I thought sounded pretty good for 100 bucks. Any I'd look at a good sequencer package, maybe something like a tascam 122 with Cubase SE if your only recording yourself. Then there's always the Mbox option. Good luck! You can do this!

| I'd say get a groovetubes gt 55 mic, and a protools Mbox setup. Your vocals still sound shotty. plus, you gotta learn how to mix vocals. Back up on the delay a little bit, once you have the pro tools setup, it will help you get a better feel for the mix., you need some compression on the main vocal tracks too, panning etc. You might want to invest in a good set of monitors too. ebay it. |
