Daw Controller

i wanted to open this thread to ask what is a Daw Controller and what is its purpose
because ive been hearing bout them ive seen them in studios but i never knew and i wanted to know if i should add one to my studio just in case to let yall know what i do is produce beats and record music hip hop generally so just anybody explain anything bout Daw Controllers
