a nice pre for my mic

Hello, i have readed good opiniono for the api 512c, but one question....
i have an at4040, yet i use a voicemaster pro but i don't find this pre too aggressive for my rap, i can setup many things but the voice is not "in face", is not furious
I think another pre can help my,...my chain is at4040 - (pre) - and fireface 800.
Some people say my to buy an api 512c, other people say my the greatriver,...
i can spend 1000-1500 dollars for a really power pre,....

Thanks everybody can help my!!!

The API will give you a more agressive sound. The Great River will give you a more aggressive sound, and probably more in line with what you might want on a hip-hop album. Either one would be a nice improvement. A GT Brick will DEFINITELY give you an in-your-face sound.... that thing is one of the sickest bang-for-the-buck pieces of gear ever.

But honestly, I'm not a fan of the AT4040 and wouldn't really consider it a mic that is condusive to the in-your-face kind of thing. It might be necessary to switch mics. All things being equal, a different mic has a greater affect on the sound than a different pre. Surely some will disagree with me though.
