To The Forum - Mod - Admin - Tony

Not to say Im not at fault for making similar threads. [i'd be a hypocrite if i didn't admit it].

But I see this board for what it is [a great thing]. and i've used the SEARCH and read so many past contributions. [which was more than informative for a n00b].

Lately I see the Old heads here complaining and saying stuff like:

"I remember when the Hip Hop forum wasn't full of crap posts like this one. Album reviews, 'check out my beats' threads, 'cop' this magazine to read about the latest 'beef' threads, 'how much is producer X slangin' his beats for' threads, etc. etc. etc."

I can co-sign that.
I've been to so many other boards and have thus left because of the dumb shit, certain producer boards full of conversation, full of life..............but the convo has little to nothing to do with producing.

or on the other hand.
[this isn't the first time i've run into "themaestro" posting on the forums.]
the other board he quit going to,or started going there very rarely.

(for example look how quick 'Big bass' was put off by this place.)

same posts over and over again, or a bunch of childish bullshit bein discussed.

What im trying to say is I'd hate to see this forum turn into that.
I know i can come here and get help on issues from guys who are actually really doing something.
I can 'poli' with people and build because they aren't immature.
[real discussions even if opinions differ.]

theres so much valuable info here i'd hate this place to turn into "pastproducers" where every other day there is a new msg up about fantom vs triton vs motif or something similar.

why not have a sticky telling new ppls to do a search first?
delete thee similar threads [especially if the same EXACT thing just came up a week ago].
BAN people for violating this?

i don't know.
im just stating what i would do if i was mod/admin/ or somethin.

your a ****in idiot.
i havent been here that long jack ass.
im stating the obvious.

why 8000 threads [on the same shit] that search would bring up?
the childish shit runs people off.

bitching? no sir. voice'n an opinion yes.
have i not admitted i've made similar threads.

look at my join date,re-read what i wrote.
why don't you go visit some of the other hip-hop forums like this one, come back and tell me it's the same.

if i was the mod i keep the house on-topic and not redundant is all, damn.

Your wrong about that. This forum used to be WAY cooler, now it resembles a few of the other more amateur forums because word got out. Can't really help that. But it used to be much more professional. I've said this before as well. But its sunken to the bedroomproducers.com level now.

The real problem is what to do about it. Thats the hard part. I brought this up before, but noone really had any great ideas on it. People don't really check out the stickies or care about the rules. I don't have a problem banning people who post their album or that kinda crap in here. But i don't think you can just ban every idiot that posts dumb threads like "fantom or triton" or "what plugin settings for x"...or maybe you can, lol. I don't think Tony is gonna go that far though.

there is a sticky asking people not to use this forum for non-gear related discussions

as far as them doing a search, here's the thing... since searching first is pretty much a common sense thing, if they don't have the sense to do it, do you really think they'd read the stickied rules first to begin with?

Better then using stickie-ickies would be (some sign-up) wikies, so that the general stuff like mixing etc. is always available to everyone.

THAT would be a great gift. A Wiki is an execellent tool if you plan it well and the people contribute to it. You just need 2-5 other guys who confirm the stuff that was written, or change it 4 the betta and then give it away 4 the world to c.

THAT would be better then to whine or to post or to moan and we all would get rid of postings we don't want here (2 be honest, some of them are from my person too, I'm by far no Pro when it comes to music, but I'm a pro on computers an Linux :-))

Well maybe if we nag the Gearslutz-Team a leetle bit, we could get one, who knows?

That would be worth polling for a yes

i don't know guys, i come to the hip hop forum because its geared towards my kind of music, however i see the gradual progression towards a fan/noobie forum. But the blame should not be on them for bringing it down, it should be on the guys who really know some $hit for not keeping it up! Actually, I think we should desegregate this forum and move its threads to where they really belong. The title itself pigeonholes and segregates both the knowledge and the knowledgeable! General recording discussion and music biz politics already have a place, so why wasn't the 'producer advances' thread put there? High end gear already has a place, are my api's and hd any different from the ones Kevin Killen may have used to record Peter Gabriel? Computer oriented questions have a place as well, so why not post your soundcard questions there? Why should the kind of music that we do warrant a need for a separate forum? Honestly, it actually makes it easier for the dummies to pin point and attack with their ignorance! I don't need a dam banner to show me where the good knowledge is, thats what the search function is for!

If you were here before this forum was created, you would know why.... it was much different for the hip hop guys 2-3 years ago. Hip hop was generally looked down upon by some of the other members of the forum, and there was very little valuable information pertinent to our style of music.

Anyway, so this is going to become a sticky and people are going to need to read the following:

Here's the new rules...

1. Infractions will be given by the mods and admin for people who violate the laws of common sense or do stupid shit... Three infractions = BAN! Three strikes you're out... These will be for things that go above and beyond stupidity, like attacking a member, racial comments, creating threads that serve no positive purpose, discussing cracked software, asking if your MBox pre's are just as good as a 1073, etc.

2. If you attack a member for his work on a major label project you are banned. Like keenly was... Immediate BAN! If you don't like the way something was mastered, or mixed, keep it to your self. This is nobody's personal soapbox. This is why some of the BIG producers don't post here much, because some idiot would always start a thread about so & so's new album and talk shit about it. If you were Pharell, would you want to help the same people that were putting you down?

3. If everyone posts how much they hate your stupid comments after you say something all the time.... You may be BANNED! Same thing happened to keenly, and will happen to others who say and do stupid shit.

It only takes one or two fools to screw up a good thing. The same people who were here in the beginning are still here. Because the forum got more popular, it's not only the well-experienced guys posting, but also newbies who were told about us in other forums.. There's no reason why we can't have both experienced pro's and beginner's discussing the same topics. I welcome newbies, just show others respect and before posting a new thread, just try the search function.

New posters = use common sense. If you've never recorded before, then this may not be the place for YOU! If you don't know how to work a compressor, this may not be the forum for you to learn how. I appreciate everyone who participates in the forum, and we will not turn anyone away. Just be cool to each other, do a search if it's something basic and respect one another.

If you see a new member posting OT threads, simply post for the thread starter to read all of the stickies before posting. This is aimed to keep the new members from changing the dynamic of the forum. This place will continue to be a place where everyone is welcomed to participate. We just need to treat others with respect, in cases where they may not know the rules or have read the stickies, don't attack the poster, just point them to the stickies.

IF ANYONE SEES ANY THREADS WHICH DON'T BELONG HERE, CLICK THE REPORT POST BUTTON AND THEY WILL BE EVALUATED AND DELETED OR LOCKED. I CAN"T READ EVERY THREAD OR EVERY POST, SO I NEED EVERYONE'S HELP WITH THIS!
