new drum machine from dave smith + roger linn

The mock-up revealed some of the basic features planned for the BoomChik, though these may change in development. Most exciting: it’s a hybrid digital / analog drum synth, with four analog voices and one digital voice. Half of the unit is a 4×4 set of pads, while the other half handles sounds and recording facilities. The front panel also shows effects (delay with feedback, resonance, reverb, etc.), a resonant low-pass filter, and distortion.
say whaaaaat?

i want one...yesterday.

Hmm... if Dave does his synthesis as well as he normally does... then this will be sick.

However, i think I still feel either a JoeMox or a Vermona calling first..

Looks pretty much like the baby of an Evolver and an MPC 60 to me...
If it could sound like it looks like, I would definitely cop one !!

Dave Smith of Dave Smith Instruments has been busy, and although the BoomChik drum machine / synth won't be ready for 9-12 months, the fact that it's being developed in association with Roger Linn means should make it a winner - well, two industry heavyweights working on one box? We could probably mark this one 11 out of 10 right now...

That was futuremusic magazine's namm blog.

I spoke to Dave Smith and he said that the BoomChick does not sample but they may implement a way to import samples into the unit. He also said that it would not be another MPC. I still think that this will probably be a great sounding unit. I guess we will have to wait and see.... maybe they can make the sampling an option if it wasn't part of the original design?

Small LCD tutt , No sampler, and what about USB or card reader, no built in synth (atleast a mono 'MEK' type thing).

Lets see.

None of that matters... it's not an MPC.

What's in a name?

Some obverations from musicthing.

http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2007/...ave-smith.html

You can put the "boom chik" next to your "Litte Phatty" and have the most embarrassingly named studio gear ev-ar. Now we just need the "wokka wokka" auto-wah!

LOL, how true. The hype surrounding this thing is crazy...it will sell like hot cakes based on the two names alone.
