fmr - really nice preamp was wondering if anyone had any opinions on these preamps and maybe there compressors too... and if so might be able to suggest a better pre for around $500 or so... this will be my first pre and will be used with a akg perception 200 and sm7b....

FMR makes good products, that preamp is a good pre. Others may tell you different but i think that pre is good. Theres definitely a lot of pres in that price range but i will say that really nice preamp stands out along with the presonus eureka. I think both pres are good. I see both of them getting bashed on this board regularly but honestly those are great pres. It depends on what you are looking for as well. Good luck man.

What about the EV-RE20 would that be a good replacement for the sm7b using that preamp? what about the P-Solo?

I just bought an SM7b and scored a used Chameleon Labs 7602 for $550 shipped here on the GS second hand gear section. Sounds Great! If you take a look at the specs on the pres you're looking at you'll want at least 60db of gain.
