Echofarm- which setting depends on the track a lot. Sometimes Micro pitch Shift from teh H3000 on BG rap vocals. On the Rap Hooks sometimes I'll use Metaflanger or the Eventide Drew's Throat Flange in the DSP4000 tucked under a bit.

The Ambience setting in the AMS RMX. The Tiled room in the PCM 70. Setting 80 (simple long delay) or 81 (chorus and pan) in the 2290. Stereo Room the the 1210. Ren Reverb vocal plate with a Spatializer post verb. 6 Voice Chorus in the 480L w. cart. Vocal 1,2, or 3, 5000 Hall, Gold Plate, or 480L hall in the M5000 (which I seem to prefer over the 480L) Quad Chorus from the Wedge unit.

Just depends.

I rarely use the SSL EQ on vocals.

I have in the past on backgrounds, but this was on the 9000J. I still prefer the outboard stuff for vocals. I like customizing the sounds. I like the backgrounds on stems(usually 4 of them according to pitch) spread out, they sound much more dynamic this way.

I use whatever it takes to make the vocals shine.

Vocals are all about natural mid dynamics and the plugs to me just don't cut it in this area.

I do like the SSL on drums though.

Same thing on drums whatever it takes.

In the plug in world I Love Pitchblender, 'chorus echos' preset with the feedback turned way back. Secret weapon...

What are some of the better outboard eq's for vocals? Also can tube eq's muddy up the vocals?

All of the usual suspects, Manley MP EQ,Avalon 2055,GML8200,Sontec,Pultecs and Neve's. Also some of the not so usual EQ's.

I think the wrong Neve EQ on a vocal can muddy it up .

Can a Tube EQ? Depends on your settings.
