1st Post / Vst Effects?

This forum is Dope.. I wanted to ask a question about Vst effects. I'm using Cubase SX3 I want to add effects on individual channels without affecting other channels on my track. I have all midi channels no audio tracks on a project. Do effect plug ins only work on Audio tracks? This might be something simple and I'm overlooking it. Any suggestions would be dope. ++++++

Welcome to GS!

Is your MIDI triggering hardware or softsynths? If its hardware, you have to record the incoming signal and place effects on the audio track. If you are triggering soft-synths you can place effects directly on the instrument track. there are midi effects in cubase but not VST. VST's are for audio and instrument tracks.

I've been using softsynths. I haven't got around to hooking up my hardware to work with Cubase. That's another mission in the making. I'm using a M-Audio Project mix I/O. I noticed that there are VST effects for midi that come with Cubase but I want to use my plug ins like Wizoo reverb etc. So do I create a fx channel for every midi channel? I know as soon as I figure this out I'm going to fly on these tracks.

dude...when u open a softsynth in Cubase it puts an instrument track in your mixer automatically. some soft-synths are multi channel and will put multiple channels in your mixer (the channels are aqua green in color). you place an effect on these channels..not the MIDI channel

An alternative would be to bounce all MIDI tracks down to audio tracks, then adding effects and mixing with those.

Just as an fyi Cubase does have midi effects like echo and other midi effects. Not VST effects but there are midi plugins that can be used pre the audio instrument track or that can be used on a midi track assigned to a hardware device.

MIDI Echo can do much that audio echos would find difficult. This preset creates a downward cascade of notes for each incoming one.
