King Crimson Red

Hey there, I saw you mention KC as an influence. I've always been amazed by the Red album and its thick, heavy syrupy sound. Obviously, the performances of Fripp/Wetton/Bruford, etc. were the main ingredients but...

Do you have any insights (gear-wise or method-wise) as to what what used in the tracking and mixing process?

In other words, if you were working with a band who wanted to get that sound, what approach would you take?

Thanks, chrisL

That was great album but I can't remember specifically what it sounded like, so I don't know what to tell you.
I used to put records up against my tracks in the studio to learn where I was in the sonic world. Still do on occasion.
Do that, try to copy it but don't get hung up on making it exactly the same. The point is to find your own sound.
