Thread Starter | Mucho praise/stereo widening revisited
Hi Tchad, First of all, I feel compelled to take this opportunity to add to the numerous words of praise already spoken here. The unique imaginative and adventurous quality of your work never ceases to amaze and inspire me. Everything you've been involved in seems to have this vibrancy and aliveness to it that remains a benchmark to me. In fact, for ages, the first thing I've been throwing on the speakers whenever I'm in an unfamiliar studio has been one of the albums you did with Los Lobos. It seems to tell me instantly wether I'll "click" with the monitors, room, etc. So, an immense thanks for all that and also for doing this Q&A! This forum has been a great read. I have a few extra q's about stereo widening. Would I be right in saying that you often use a slight amount of it on stuff that's panned to the hard left or right? An example of what I mean would be the guitars on the intro of This Time by Los Lobos. They seem to be slightly outside the speakers, giving a very enveloping, intimate quality to the whole soundstage. You mentioned no plugin seemed to succesfully emulate the hardware solutions you use for this effect. Does this mean you insert a Hughes box or H3000 when you mix ITB? Thanks again! L |

I always have those bits of OB for mixing. Here at Mongrel they're set up on a 192 interface I/O so I can easily record them when needed. Give this a go....send anything: H3000 preset=Buenos Notches, mix=100%, FB=30-80%,rate= .01-4,mode=sweep. Send to SRS, no center, all else up full.
