Kick Drum: Soul Couging's Yuval Gabay

Tchad, what kind of method did you use to get the kick sound on Yuval Gabay's kit for Soul Coughing's first record?

When I listen to "Screenwriter's Blues", the kick drum is unlike anything else I've heard on a pop recording, ever. There's a lot of sustain to the kick, almost like an 808 kick.

Tchad, could you give any insight to the drum mixing/micing on the track 'misinformed'?

I don't remember specifically but it would have had Sans Amp. Could have been a little red Remo kick drum, student model, 18" or 20" that often sounds like an 808.
Mono kit mic as well. Compressed.
