mechanical filters

I'm really interested in your mechanical filters technique and am going to experiment with them on my next session.

What are some of the most bizarre filters you have used?
I'm thinking of using some drainpipes coming from the drum kit and micing the end of it,...we'll see what it sounds like!

Cheers

Iwan

With this, you will have fun. I get chills just thinking about it. Any and everything goes.
57's fit in most kinds of pipes, digeridoos(very musical), drains in floors, metal, plastic, short, long, trash cans, oil cans(attatch stretchy springs for waggle), glasses, tumblers, mugs in front of amps for pitched feedback.
I've used lavaliers to slip through drain grates and that works well too.
Extreme compression is often called for and maybe a bit of Sans Amp.
Try cupping your hand over the front end of the tube for wah effects. Erh...you can use your mouth too.
Just be aware that after you do all this, no one will hire you to do anything for a period of three months.
Please have fun, and let me know how it goes.

You mentioned in another thread that you have an allround set of tubes/mecanical filters (not tuned to any particular tuning) that you carry with you for different sessions. Off course anything goes playing with this stuff but it would be great to hear what sizes/material (plastic/metal/etc?) your 'standard'-tubes are... Just to have a starting-point?
Also do you have any recomendations as to particular instruments?

Thanks

Ranges from 15" to 3'. Metal, wood and plastic are all good. 1-2" dia.
Never tried it on bass or strings.
