Drum micing

I'm a big fan, you have an amazing discography!

I was wondering if you could speak about your drum micing methods. I love the drum sounds you get. I have always been a big fan of small kits and small mic setups (4 or 5 mics). Is that the kind of approach you take? What types of mics do you like for drums?

and to add a little something to that: do you also use a snare bottom often? (and what brand mics?)
Sometimes I think that the micing at ?Love's kit is very minimal, so maybe you left out the bottom? Thanks for doing this!

hello chris,

this could take some time to post but i wanted to reply so you don't think i'm blowing you off. However, i did go into some depth about my mic'ing in the "modern r&b drum sound" forum here.

But I do want to talk more about it, so i'll be back to you...

(I too am a fan of minimal mics on a kit, but yoo have to have good mics and good sounding drums)

all the best
