Scratch tracks that were "it"

Hi John,
Do you have any stories of sessions in which you recorded a "scratch" track or two - a scratch vocal and/or scratch guitar track for instance, that just came out too perfectly and it wound up being used as is? I think it happens to everyone at some point or another (or at least the temptation to use scratch tracks happens to everyone!), and I was just curious if you had any particular stand out performances where this happened in your years of work, where you had to just say "this is it. it's not going to get any better than this."

Thanks,
Pat

Scratch Tracks

Hi Pat
Yes. happens all the time if the conditions are right. Its not that its so perfect because it never is and thats not the point. Always go for good competent usable sound on 'scratch' tracks. You'll probably find a number of scratch tracks on Radiohead The Bends, The Fall and even Muse.
Cheers JL
