First let me say welcome to Gearslutz. You have worked with a large array of artists(some of my) faves. Could you discuss how you handle a vocal like Jay Ashtons (Gene Loves Jezabel)?

Wow! Gene Loves Jezebel are very under rated band. It was mid 80s at Chapel studio in Hampton Bishop in Hereford UK. Set up for vocals is pretty much same as today. I'd use good Shure SM58 or tube Neuman U47. For Jay it'd be 58 and singing in control room with speakers on and OK loud and him dead close ton mic. Take cymbals out of playback to reduce spill. I often use Urei 1176 black for vocals and often different mic for backing vocals like a AKG 414 Cheers JL |

Thanks for answering my question. You're right, they are under-rated.
