Reverbs on vocals

Hi All,

Since we had the "reverbs on drums" thread, I was wondering what kind of reverb, if any, you guys use on vocals.

Lately I've been digging mono verbs on snares and am finding that it can also work on vocals. Though usually I use a plate with someting like 40ms predelay and 2-2.5s of reverb, very sparcely mixed in in stereo.

What do you use? And whatfor, to make the vocal wide, or longer?

Greetings,
Dirk

I use the pc90 reverbs on my old lexicon core32 soundcard. It has the same chip as the pcm90 and some of the algorithms. I mostly use one ambient and one concerthall reverb. The ambient is used on whatever needs space to be placed better, the hall on whatever needs reverb. I use them to suggest more space, as all my recordings are done direct or in a small vocal booth. Just like you I don't wanna hear the reverb, just feel the space. I don't have the right skills or gear or room to make the vocals wide and deep without a tiny bit of reverb yet. Some tips on that maybe?

regards, budy

As a real eventide fan I use the 8000 and the Eclipse. I use a lot of other things beside reverb and ambiance. BTW the ambiance is real smooth on the 8000. But is also use micropitchshift and all the look alikes like pitched delays to make it wide and large when needed. The PCM91 I have I do not use for vocals, too raw. I use that sometimes on gitar or drums, but not for vocals.

Hi, Froombosch!
I've been a lurking member at Eventidehelps for a while,
you got som nice presets goin'

My vocal "verb" are layers of different stuff:

Boss delay machine (analog)
Fostex spring 'verb
Eventide microtuning
Akg 68k
Maybe an IR (EMT 250, SRV ..)

Things may kick in at different thresholds.

Like DirkB, I like mono as a base, I'm careful with that micro-
tuning, so it won't screw up my focus.

Thanks Ruud!

It is pitty that eventidehelps is a bit down after all the flaming there.

The micropitch I use mostly in parts of the song to grab attention. As an overall effect I would set it way back because it can sound plastic. I use lots of strange effects with some R&B /grindcore stuff lately. A bit of my signature at this moment.

Having your avatar and the fact that you
sometimes shoot the singer, you must be a
rap-producer...

-right?
