Ok what are other folks using as far as in the box compression?Personally I have a 2254e,fatso,distressor as well as a rnc so I track a lot of stuff with compression to get the sound I want. When mixing I'll use the hardware on inserts but when I still need some more comp on other channels I usually reach for compressorbank or occasionally ren comp.
Cheers,
Chris

I have a couple of Distressor EL8x's and have been enjoying what they do to the main vox in opto mode.
More so for rock male but also to get some grunt into sweet female voices.
I recently did a light opera male vocal and used my Millenia STT-1 for a much cleaner sound. I also like the eq on that thing.
I always use the inserts I/O in PTools for my outboard stuff and the new delay comp has made the job easier.
Sometimes I put the Fatso on the 2 bus if only for the warmth control on peaks. It also makes a great drum sub comp.
I also noticed that Mike Brauer inserts a Avalon 747 accross the 2 bus and because I admire his work I gave it a try and it's a wonderful effect. You don't use any comp or eq. Just put it there on the valve setting and listen. It does "something" to the low mids. It's not subtle. Big smile.
The experimentation never stops!

I see you were generally asking about ITB compressors. Sorry for the incorrect response. Actually for non subtle stuff I don't mind the good old Digi comp.
I also like Mcdsp AC1 and 2 even though they are not straight compressors.

possibly , do to mike shipleys most generous and insightful sharing of his

Thrill...

as per normal you are SO right..

Jules would have to rent a dedicated T1 or whatever DDS fastway he could afford. I mean it would be seriosuly outa control. And i dont think Andy would even be able to keep up with all the questions, which makes me even more greatful for Mike's insightful comments and observations, along with everyone else..

Gee i love this place!

Sure - Wes Dooley's a contender, and there's Rupert... a few others come to mind as well.

Doesn't that count? Ok, and there's his opinion that plug in compressors haven't gotten it right (and are years away from getting it right)?
