I don't remember the details of that recording, but in listening to the track just a few minutes ago, it sounds like the guitars (probably with vibrato on the amps) are double tracked.
The solo does sound like it's mic'ed from a distance with lots of compression. Perhaps the mic is not even facing the amp.
