fatso/distressor vs. api 2500

hi dave,
i'm demo-ing the api 2500 in my studio this week. i'm looking for a mix-buss compressor to replace my finalizer compression (i'm still planning to use the finalizer for converters).
i like the api 2500 a lot. i haven't had a chance to hear the fatso. do they compare?

thanks!

I'm not Dave... nor do I play Dave on TV... but I have tried both units in that application and can emphatically state that there is absolutely no comparison between the two.

They're two radically different animals. Using them both is a sound... using them individually is a sound... comparing the sounds? Not possible.

I had a feeling that would be the answer.

That tape saturation thing sounds fun, though I must admit that I hate the idea of "emulators". If a box has one killer sound, that's fine with me.

How would you compare the api 2500 to it's closest contenders?
I haven't had a chance to hear the Smart C2 or the Crane Song STC-8.

Thanks.
