reports on softsamplers

PT dropped samplecell which though limited was functional.

Since then I've bought Kontakt and Mach 5.

They are both flaky.

Is Sampletank any better, I'm generally hearing some good things about it after a phase of bad press?

thanks

I've tried sampletank version one ....

It's a 'reader' ... not a sampler with few to no editing possibilities.

It does read sample libraries but what realy bothered me with it was that the more CD-roms I added to the library the slower it got ... and I do mean sloooooowwwww .... forget about having your complete library in there and browsing through it like you can with M5 for example.

but that was version one .... maybe things changed ....

Renie,

As you know, I bought Kontakt last year.

The way I see it now, that money was spent on an extensive drum sample library.

The program itself...forget it. I can't deal with it. It's just too weird for me. Crashes, glitches, and the whole DirectConnect thing eludes me for some reason.

But I've had a lot of success importing the samples directly into PT, and arranging them there in Grid mode. The samples sound really good, worth the money spent on the whole kit, actually.

But my experience with the software itself has: 1) pushed me back into hardware, 2) led me to program in PT more creatively, and 3) led to calling more good musicians in to record, rather than depending on the machines so much.

The softsynths/softsamplers thing has a ways to go IMO.

What system are you running on? OS9, OSX or Windows?

That's it!
When I use my Logic template w/Sampletank,EXS24,Battery among many others, I tend to lean in one direction
-gettin' to lazy!
Maybe it's time to put some plugs in the unused folder
and get on with it
