DUY for PC? Maybe

For PC PT users, I have what should turn out to be really great news for all of you:

I've heard (but I can't say from who) something about DUY releasing Windows XP versions of their plug-ins soon. This is AMAZING news for all the PC users of PT who have been asking me for years what do I recommend they use instead of DUY because it wasn't available. My standard answer was always--sorry, nothing.

I can't say anything else. But keep checking back here for new info. We should be hearing more about this very soon.

Thanks.

That's good news for PC folk...I wish DUY were a bit more reasonably priced TDM wise. I still haven't upgraded from OS9 to X with them because it's expensive.

Good point Rene. Interestingly enough, they used to be rather cheap until a certain company...lets call them "dodgydesign" took over distribution. I managed to get my lot from the previous distributor and it cost me a third of the 'new' price.

A new email from DUY:

"Shane,

Thanks for your email. I'm sorry we couldn't reply before to your messages, but
we couldn't announce the release of XP publicly yet... As a matter of fact, we
will still hold the announcement back for a few days before notifying it on our
website, although Digidesign has put the news on their pages. We want to give
full information about this release properly and with no rush...

If you purchase a package that doesn't contain the Windows XP versions, you'll
be able to download them from our website once you have registered.

Best regards,

Xavier - DUY"

Charles, you knew about this didnt you? I'm getting these ASAP. Use them on a mix I'm just finishing

Smile Yes, it's true!

Hi Everyone!!

It's a pleasure for me to take part of the Gearslutz forum.

Charles was indeed well informed!! I am pleased to announce that we'll shortly be releasing the Windows XP compatible versions of all our TDM and RTAS plug-ins, as you will have read on Digidesign's Development Partner News.

Digidesign usually requests information to be sent to them well in advance, and this has caused that we couldn't aim at the exact date for the release when we sent them the Press Release. Originally we were meant to ship the XP versions at the beginning of this present week, but we're going to have a 7-10 day delay in the launch, finally aiming at next week.

If you want to be punctually informed about the complete policies, news and updated pricing, we suggest you have a look at our website at the end of the present week or beginning of the following.

I can't sign this message without thanking Charles Dye before, for his personal friendship and his continued support of our software. I can truly tell all Gearslutz'ers that it's an honour for us to have him as one of our users, especially for the way how he has revolutioned the concept of mixing so very professionally within ProTools, and how he has proved that it certainly IS possible to get a great sound... if you know what you're doing when you touch all those "virtual buttons". Our main goal is to always deliver a high quality sound. This is what we have always worked for, and the plug-ins we're working on now are aimed at people who respect the audio path as much as we do. I know it sounds like a highly polite & political statement, but it's really the truth...

I plan to visit this forum daily, so you have any questions about our software, please let me know and I'll reply to them (although this month's moderator probably knows our plug-ins better than I do!!! )

Very best regards from Barcelona,

Xavier

Great news Xavier. I do have a question for you. I noticed that there is no native version of Dad Tape. Does the DUY Analog Bundle for TDM include the RTAS versions for those two plug-ins? If that is the case then I'll have to purchase that bundle in order to get the RTAS version for my le system.

My thoughts exactree, why wasn't tape included in the RTAS bundle?

P.S. I look forward to using your plug-ins soon.

Hi Chris, Shane, Anthony and 1nation!

To clarify the point about DaD Tape, this plug-in is only available for TDM. We're not specifically trying to not develop it for RTAS. It's just that we have a huge list of developments, and making the RTAS version of Tape hasn't been at the top of our list. We might be able to change this, but knowing the plans we have for the rest of the year, it's not likely that we'll be able to make Tape for RTAS in the next months.

About Sly and Renie's remarks regarding the pricing of our plug-ins, I can tell you that our pricing policy will be changed coinciding with the day when we will make the official announcement on our website with all details about the XP release. For your information, EverPack RTAS (for Windows XP) is expected to ship at €295, pending final confirmation.

Best regards,

Thanks for your response, Xavier!

I'm sure you all have your priorities straight (TDM stuff and XP first seems pretty obvious). I'm also guessing that your Everpack bundle sales will increase dramatically as soon as Tape is ported over to RTAS, especially since you're supporting XP now. LE has gained a pretty huge following and with Charles D plugging (pun intended!) your stuff everywhere, Tape in particular, it seems like a nice business move. Maybe that will bump it up the list, maybe not. Never hurts to try, right?!

Good to hear about the price drop. I'll be jumping aboard as soon as that happens. Keep up the good work.

peace,
Ants

Thanks Xavier for your extremely kind words!

I'm really glad that almost everyone can now use these fantastic plugs. And when the RTAS versions are done everyone will!

DUYs plugs have always been among my very faves.

Xavier,

Just thought I'd let you know that I posted the announcement at the Digi Users Conference under the 'Pro Tools LE for Windows' Forum. Just in that forum alone it has gotten over 276 views. Thats alot of DaD Tape RTAS users. And thats just the XP guys. We still have the Mac guys on PT le RTAS. Hint Hint
