Secrets of Serban Ghenea

IMO, Serban Ghenea, mix engineer for The Neptunes and Kenna among others, is the best "in the box" mixer out there. What are his secrets? Anyone know?

I wouldn't say the best ITB mixer as Dye's mixes are just as good. Years back I had the opportunity to learn a bit from Serban and one thing that stuck with me ever since was the fact that nothing is too cheap or ordinary or 'no good cuz no one else uses it'.

He was very into sculpting 'sound' as opposed to just doing what we've always done.

And about doing what we've always done in the past, I have a term for that:

PRESET MIXING
(Preset one: SSL/tape. Preset two: Neve/tape, and on and on...)

So back to the topic at hand, I think that's what these guys are all about, Dye and Ghenea --- unorthodox mixing methods and not afraid to try things that others look down on (such as PT way back in the day when they said it sux).
