Autotune?

Autotune. Your stance on it, how you use it in the studio, and your opinion on where it will go from here

My frozen dairy beverage bringeth all the gentlefolk to the yard, and they claim, "Surely, 'tis better than thine! Surely, 'tis better than thine!" I'd instruct you, though I must levy a fee.

I hate it when you can tell it's being used, and unfortunately i hear it on lots of records.

I only use it when necessary, I'd rather have the singer do more takes, or spend more time comping vocals. When I do use it, I try to use it on a very forgivable setting.

I'm sure the engineers will agree with me!

Definitely. When absolutely necessary, we tend to use Melodyne.

One thing to be aware of is that BV is very meticulous in the process of tracking vocals and will usually want to have a number of takes to choose from.. Sometimes zeroing in on a certain part like a verse or a chorus and just track that until he feels like the right mix of performance and feeling is there.

We'll only use Melodyne when the performance is there but it's just a little pitchy.
