Possible Influence?

Hey Butch,

I've had this question for a long time now. I remember reading a review of Beautifulgarbage; specifically how the reviewer mentioned how "Cup of Coffee" had John Carpenter like moments. Was his early synth/piano film music something you and the band enjoyed or was the reviewer seeing something that wasn't there? It inspired me when I made a crappy short film for my college film class to make a horror movie where I mashed up Garbage songs with Carpenter soundtracks. (I made sure of course to give proper credit).

Thanks,
Shaun

P.S. Please tell Shirley that Catherine Weaver is my dream woman- even if she has blades for hands for certain occasions.

Duke came up with that revolving piano line at the start of Cup of Coffee, so I'm not sure what was influencing him at the time...but as a band, we always had films on the DVD player at the studio for inspiration...and John Carpenter's we're among them.

Check out the piano line at the start You Look So Fine, that also has a bit of a cinematic feel.
