| Specific EQ Settings/Pockets
Hi Butch. Huge fan of your work. I really enjoy your responses, especially regarding your EQ settings -- like your '5 min drum sound' -- boost at 80 or 120hz, scoop -8db at 300-500hz, boost 5 or 6k for cymbals.
I know we all read the books about the standard EQ "template" to use for what instruments...but I would still love to hear some more of your EQ settings for other instruments -- like vocals, acoustic & electric guitar, bass, etc with a specific set of numbers like you gave for the 5 min drum sound....I find my favorite interviews with producers are when they give specific information like that... so I was hoping you could share with us what are your favorite settings. Do you put hi-pasess on most of your instruments to cut out the piling of extremely low frequencies?
Also, I like how you described "EQ pockets" -- where you EQ a particular instrument to its own very specific sound pocket so that each instrument in the recording has its own "color" on the sound canvas, you could say.... They won't sound good soloed, but all together they paint a picture. I find this is a very good way to EQ myself. Would you perhaps get into more detail, with some examples of EQ settings you used in particular songs with this method?
Thanks!
Greta
