your thoughts on monitors please.

butch.
a question...need your opinion on monitors.
ive been around the monitor roundabout for decades.
up the blind alleys etc etc lol.
(degree in physics ).
my contention is there is no perfect monitor solution,
cos the problem is "the consumer" is often playing back ones song on
el cheapo playback systems. mp3 players/boomboxes/ cd clock radios,
etc etc n all manner of stuff.

thus i would like your opinion on how do you ensure a song youve done sounds great on even the poorest playback system ?? what do you do ??
(sometimes mixes that sound glorious in the studio on big soffits dont sometimes translate etc.)

I think it's really important to keep grounded in the real world...so listen to your ruffs and mixes on as many systems as possible. I really like using the Barefoot MM27's as my studio monitors, I also have a pair in my home studio. But I usually spend more time listening through consumer systems: my laptop, my junky car stereo, and in my boomy living room through an airtunes wifi setup. The mix will always sound different
depending on where you hear it. I think your mixes will translate to a lot of systems if you get the mix sounding right on the cheapest speakers....
