To tape or not to tape?

I was reading through the new green day thread and saw that you used tape and Pro Tools. I was wondering if you could expand on how exactly you prefer doing this? Did you record at 15ips or 30? And how does this hybrid setup affect your work flow?

We ended up doing the whole album in PT.

Hi guys,

Just to clear up any confusion..... The drums and bass were recorded to Tape AND to Pro Tools, two formats. So we ended up with one set of drums and bass tracks that were direct into Pro Tools and an additional set of tracks that came off the tape machine and into Pro Tools.

All of the tracks resided in Pro Tools.

Sorry for not making my comments clearer. Chris is right, we did record to both formats at the same time. In the end, I think almost all the tracks were from Pro Tools, we might have had a few songs where we used the bass off tape. I don't think we used any drums...or did we?

You're correct Butch, no analog Drums and only a few songs with analog Bass.

Quack!

Then, would it be possible to know what converters were used? PT 192?

By the way thank you very much to you Butch, Jeff and others for doing this.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies and time on this thread. It is really appreciated.

This is more of a question for Chris, I'm wondering did you split at the mic line and run separate mic pres into protools and tape or mult the line level signal when tracking to pt and tape at the same time?

Many thanks,
J2nd.
