go ahead and post it on Slutz - we are looking to be shipping by the

I could actually use this with my focusrite saffire on my laptop rig and really make sessions run better - and still get to use the 8ch summing feature thanks to the digital I/O

While this would be great for any studio, this is the first of these products that really has the potential to elevate the smaller / lower budget setup.

mmm...nice, but I wished they put an expansion option, so I could link it to my Dangerous 2bus LT.
What a pity!!

I guess at some point you have to make a product like this pretty self contained or it gets more expensive and defeats the purpose of it's design and price point.

I'd like to see some transformers in it for a fatter summing path, but you can dream up mods for days

If you had the option of no digital converters, and the option of expanding it with dangerous's other summing boxes I would buy it

I think its actually quite good value for money even without the D/A. Its not much more than a Coleman monitor controller.

But I hear your point about the compatability with other Dangerous products. I guess you could patch the stereo O/P of your current Dangerous product into two of the input channels of the D-Box. But then you'd have 2 summing busses.

More info from Dangerous

From Bob@Dangerous (just sent this to me and I thought I'd update) :

"We added an external talkback jack on the rear panel

It'll street for $1300-$1400

The converter is our own design - it sounds killer and you will be
amazed that it is part of a multi-function box - it gives stand-alone
2-Ch D/A's a run for their money. We will be using the same converter
in the D/A option for the Additional Switching modules for ST and SR
coming out in the middle of next year.

We didn't make it linkable as it is designed to be a monolithic
all-in-one box with a small footprint. For the open-ended with more
functions picture we've got Monitor ST and LT or 2B

As with all of our stuff we go for the clean signal path so that your
options are always open and to flavor to taste as an insert on the
summing output, or on the input stems or both."

Hope this helps

For every one customer he looses, he is prob going to gain 5 more.

I've worked on a 2-Buss and with a ST controller (a client commission me to wire it all up) and while they are nice I personally couldn't justify the expense, but a D-Box offers more of what I need, for less money... and I know I'm not alone...

Cheers

I agree, Matt.
But since I own a 2Bus I would have loved such a toy,and other people with me. So our friend Bob would have me, you, other 2bus owners and 5 more.

Ah, I see your point, I guess that Bob just feels that the ST controller offer most of the options that the D-Box does, like Talk Back, Headphones, Multiple ins and outs etc, all but the D/A, which is sounds like he has coming next year.

If you look at the back panel alot of real estate has been taken up and so there isn't much more room to add additional features, there is always a trade off for designers, I know with my own gear and custom builds it is the same issue.

Cheers

Maybe...but if he were to add that functionality it would certainly increase the cost, and who knows how many of those "5 more" he'd lose to that?

Hey, you can put everything in one box, but it ends up costing more than a car and half the size of a pickup truck.

I like that this box does the job at a reasonable price - and if it's not enough - there are bigger better products from the same company.

I think Narco's (and others) suggestions are good though, because these ideas can further the improvment of future products.

Sony often introduce new ideas and tech into their proconsumer cameras and then those ideas show up in the broadcast cameras (costing 100x as much) more refined.

I sure pro audio companies do the same and this box may spawn something even more badass (and expensive) in the future.

In the meantime, I'm looking foward to giving this one a run in the studio and on the laptop rig on remote.

Actually I was asking for less

(assuming a digital converter is more complicated than a summing expansion connection..)

Sorry - didn't mean to imply anything - I thought it was a good idea you had...only the current config is more suited to my needs so I get to be happy and not poor for once

It is funny though that the more features a product has, the more mods or alternative ideas seem to spring to mind - fuel for the brain I guess.
