Hi folks,

We promised more NanoMods (well, in fact we said they were coming to colonise your world like hegemonising aliens... but that might have been exaggerating a bit ). Now here's the proof! NanoMod 2: Cool Reeds is the follow-up to NanoMod 1: Rich Pads, and is out now on the Rhythmic Robot website.

As before, you get blendable waveforms, convolved analogue filters (Wasp and MS20), a dynamically interacting "smart" interface packing a lot of control into just a handful of knobs, and the Glitch button for intelligent, musical randomisation. The difference is in the source waveforms, which this time come on the one hand from a raw, vintage fan-driven reed organ with an organic, imperfect tonality and a typical soft attack; and on the other, from a synthesised batch of pulse waves designed to give a larger-than-life synth reed tone. Morphing between these two gives access to a rich palette of sounds, from acoustic-style chanters, drones and reeds, through aggressive overdriven organs, to strange ethnic creations, to full-on synthetic washes... all with an unmistakable airy, reedy vibe.

"The potential of these NanoMods is amazing… the whole point is that synthesis is more rewarding when the initial waveform has integrity. No amount of matrix modulation can save a tepid PCM wave from boredom. The great thing about your creations is I'm always trying to control and tame this rude and characterful big wave instead of trying to wake the bloody thing up!" – Harvey Jones, NYC producer and composer

Audio demos and more details are on the website here (scroll down to the bottom of the page):

NanoMods

Please note that you may have to refresh your browser window to see the new addition

Features:

• Custom-designed analogue source waves
• Intelligently-interacting UI for swift, efficient, familiar control
• Huge variety of reed sounds on offer from a small-footprint, simple interface
• Glitch control for instant inspiration
• Part of the NanoMod series, which builds into a collection of niche-specific instruments

NanoMod 2: Cool Reeds is the second of the growing NanoMod series of miniature synths, all of which cost £3. They require Kontakt version 4.2.3 or above to run (including all versions of Kontakt 5).

Any suggestions for future NanoMods? Or future colourschemes?! Keep 'em coming!

Best wishes,

The Professor (and Mongo)
