It's funny that some people including me tend to refer to this as a "plugin". It's an application.
This is the most amazing thing happened to DAW users since they came out. A must have for sure.
It should come integrated with every DAW...

Thread Starter | Pro Tools Expert has posted a review of PluginUpdate Public Beta 1.0.0. Among other things, they echoed the sentiment from this community that (in particular) the password requirements are a bit frustrating.
So, in the next version we will implement less stringent requirements, as well as a password strength meter. Also, we will make sure to add deeper links to plugin sub-sites, and we will be integrating with developers more and more over time. There are many other enhancements and fixes in the works as well, some of which you can read about on our version history page.

I also wanted to say, thank you all for your continued feedback. I'm reading all of it, even if I don't get the chance to individually reply to each of your posts.

Guys - this an excellent app and something that has been long overdue. Kudos for opening this up to us while in beta... Getting feedback and suggestions from those that will be using it and presumably buying .. Will ensure success and a much more function rich app.
I can see the challenges especially in dealing with so many developers ... So in terms of beta feedback. Do you want it developer/plug in specific .. Or are you only looking at feature feedback at this point?

We're happy to have such a great amount of feedback in such a short time. We can sort the developer/plugin specific stuff on this end pretty well, but if you notice something odd with version numbers etc. going on it's totally fine to post that here, as it does speed things up a bit for us and helps other users.
We'll be issuing an update to the app itself next week to address the lion's share of feedback thus far. Thanks!

Just wanted to show my appreciation for this much needed piece of software. I'm sure i'm not the only one to start feeling like a liberian, trying to manage the ever-growing plugin list
I echo the comments about being able to distinguish between beta & final versions & the Camel Audio duplicates.
Lets hope developers start bundling this with their installers |

Kudos for the app!! Much needed!!!
Also, IMHO, the strong password is a definite plus! As a matter of fact I would suggest to everyone complaining about it to go change their "simple" passwords to the more "complicated" ones. Especially if you use one for many sites!!
Unfortunately, cyber-crime is alive and kickin! In particular when there's financial info involved (which I understand, since the developers are planning a store, would be the case--and what a PITA to have to upgrade password protection on an account!)
Anyways, great app! Looking forward to the ironing out of the bugs, etc.

I'm beginnig to think that some of these "beta versions" that are showing aren't really beta versions, but use different numbering scheme.
for example:
1.51 -> 1.52 -> ... -> 1.59 -> 1.510 -> 1.511 -> ...
which would be more obvious if they would use
1.5.1 -> 1.5.2 -> ... -> 1.5.9 -> 1.5.10 -> 1.5.11 -> ...
Softube, Voxengo and Overloud plugins seem to be numbered like this.

A bunch of inaccuracies in our database have been corrected today, and we're correcting more as we speak. Try re-scanning, things should be a lot less crowded in the Updates tab, especially if you're a Pro Tools user. Thanks again!

(like in Star Wars, pretty much.) We'll figure out a workaround, as this is happening with a handful of other plugins for the same reason, but in the case of Clariphonic, it seems to be a fluke specific to this version of this plugin (not happening with VST or AU versions.)

A true can't do without app. Amazing.
NOW...will someone please come out with an app or plug in that will go into a session in your DAW and give you a PDF of a session's key info?
1 Number of audio tracks in this session
2 Plug ins used and on which tracks
3 Anything else I'm not thinking of...
A complete record of a session....

TH | This is something you're going to have to ask your DAW manufacturer to add as a feature. DAWs typically store session details in a proprietary format, which often evolves with each update to the software. It would be effectively impossible for a third party to build an app to do this.

matt | I've heard this type of statement a lot on various forums. No offense intended, but there is almost nothing in the world of programming that is as simple as it might appear from the outset, even to an experienced programmer. Here's a great thread on KVR that addresses this (and other related issues.)
In any case, it would be far less difficult (i.e. actually possible) for the DAW manufacturers themselves to add this feature to their respective DAWs.

TH | Pro Tools has an export text feature that will list number of tracks, plugins, number of instances active and inactive, version numbers and a few other things. Works really well.

Yeah, PluginUpdate is listing plugins that are obviously beta, which isn't very helpful for the average end user (maybe helpful for beta testers though). There should be a way to differentiate between release and beta versions.

Just a suggestions: How about Command+R to reveal in finder, so that we can drag old plugins to the unused folder or to the trash (or build those functions in as well).

When you hit scan, nothing happens. It just sits there and then you get the spinning beach ball until it's done. Very disconcerting for most people, including myself. A progress bar would be nice to have, even if it isn't very accurate. Also, when you re-launch the app, it shows plugins from your last scan. It would be nice if it automatically updated since things have probably changed since that last scan.
Plugins version problems:
McDsp plugins are showing 5.28, 5.29, etc. as being the latest, when in fact the latest release is 5.213 for most of them.
Hofa IQ EQ latest is 3.010, but shows 3.09 as being the latest.
Softube versions are off as others have pointed out.

I will add a quick note - please make sure to re-scan each time you launch PluginUpdate. It doesn't auto-scan for you, and our database is constantly being updated. In the next beta, we will have the app purge the plugin list cache if you haven't run the app for an hour.

Yes this is a great application! I, like many, thought an application like this was needed. So glad you did this and shared it with us.
You rock!

Question...when I Scan my plugs it shows that I have Digidesign plugs but I don't. I checked in all my /Library/Audio/Plug-ins folders and nothing. Any idea why this is happening? Or, better yet where it would be pulling this info from?
Thanks.

Thanks. | Check your Paths settings in Preferences. Avid/Digidesign store their plugins in a different subfolder of Library on your boot drive. It's possible that you may have had an installation of Pro Tools at some point?
