MAC PRO:
dual 2.66 Xeon,
1 GB RAM,
Geforce 7300 GT (256 MB VRAM),
SuperDrive,
$2499

that's the base model, everything else is built to order.
so effectively, they are moving away from the Good, better, best thing.
this also means more regular processor updates prolly, since Intel pushes out revisions much faster than moto and IBM did.

...says there will be 3 speeds, all dual dual-core (quad)
(2.0, 2.66 and 3.0GHz across the spectrum)

so i'm hoping the quad 2.0 will be $1999, if the quad 2.66ghz is $2499

native processing biatches!!!!

2.6 Ghz dual
256 MB ram
Superdrive
$2499

processors fit in compact space - leaves lots of room in case for full size ram, drives, everything
drive carriers - insert drives without tools - just snap into place
inside, entirely new
design of case stays the same
graphics slot at bottom - double wide for larger graphics cards
back - 4 PCI express slots
increased front I/O as well as back I/O
second optical drive
up to 2 TB of internal storage
less cooling in box
room for 4 hard drives
each on it's own - 25GB/sec bandwidth
4channel
256 bit wide memory access
twice the bus of the G5
1.6 to 2.1x faster than the G5 quad
large 4 MB shared L2 cache
old case - two optical drives

now that they're actually selling fast computers again, he doesn't need the "one more thing" to steal the show. There are finally good announcements in the actual body of the keynote.

He normally reserves that for MacWorld, San Fran or Tokyo.

and only then when he's got something really cool new - no such animal at WWDC.

Amazingly enough, Digi says PTHD will be working on these MacPros next month!!!!!

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=23350

Digi has really been on the ball with the IntelMac transition.

Agreed.

TDM + RTAS, Digi DSP + Quad Cores = processing bliss!

Those 4 internal drive bays look very nice!

Yes they have. I wonder why no Logic announcement though? I was hoping to see something new concerning Logic! I get the felling Apple must be doing something really major with Logic, it's been too quiet for too long..............

High end users need will need HD for the near future ...
Large scale reliable low lentecy systems that need 160 channels of I/O are hard to find in the native world.
Digi is always movinng forward with devolopment on new hardware.
Expect new more powerfull DSP cards in the next 24 months.

you can see that Apple did the benchmarks of Mac Pro's audio with Logic 7.2.2, which to my knowledge haven't been released yet.

so should be any day now.

can you imagine, to run more than 4 convo verbs at 96Khz?
(sorry I'm still in the stoneage)

Logic 8 native 64bit? entirely possible. Maybe we'll need at least 4 gig ram ??

Not like they had much choice - these new MacPro's complete Apple's transition to Intel, that's all she wrote.

Pro Tools has been dual-platform for ages, so the transition would not have been problematic.
