I want to hear the Old hardware up against the New plugin. Us OLD and discriminating users of 480's want to hear it's dated & classic sounds side by side.
If it's bit for bit perfect as advertised clips will be a huge selling point. Should come very close to nulling.
I'm hoping for the best, and cautiously optimistic.

bring us a 15 minutes video or longer, we want sound,
although we heard 1000 of songs with this rev-algos.
How do the very very small chamber settings sound and how do the out of this world alien plates with modulation larger than life sound?

I'm hoping for the best, and cautiously optimistic. | Because of the randomization of the tail, you cannot get the same 480L to null on consecutive passes. So, you may want to consider other ways of testing.

There're some ways to test :
#1 - The Wander parameter controls the randomization - if you set this parameter to zero you will still have modulation, but it's not randomized. Now you 'just' need to time the testing so the modulation phase is matched. This is very time consuming and rather boring.
#2 - Set both Spin and Wander to zero to deactivate the modulation. Then change Size - this will initialize the algorithms on the original (and the plugin) and you can now perform the test. The problem with this procedure is that the algorithms doesn't sound like normal (with modulation). There's an actually bug in the original 4.1 regarding the Random Hall algorithm which have excessive ringing in this state. You can deactivate this 'bug' in the plugin in the setup page, but for this test it has to be activated.
You should choose the Digital (Noise) I/O mode if you have connected the original unit via AES/EBU.

I terms of flexibility, the EMT doesn't compare. Budget unlimited studios would surely like to have both.

I see - but only when loading presets from the Random Hall, Ambience and Post Ambience preset folders.
Starting from ALL the other algo type preset folders there is no Spin and Wander in the MOD section and that is what had me confused.
Thanks

Could it be much more different than that?

He did release "1999" in 1982, but wasn´t visionary enough to use 1986´s 480L just two years before actual release! |

This was months ago. Since then I've demoed a lot of reverbs and yes I have found some I like, SSL X-verb, Arts Acoustic, LXP, but I really need to get this LX480 again before anything else I think, it's just beautiful and makes my mixes sound great (I use a lot of reverb for trance of course)
I'd say the closest candidate for me is the MPX because it's so cheap and I remember it sounding quite similar the LX480, but not as rich or dense. I dunno, its so hard when your demos run out and you have to go on memory.

That's sometime useful for weaker sound sources (if controlled).

I dunno, its so hard when your demos run out and you have to go on memory. | Hey Aiyn, ValhallaVintageVerb can sound pretty similar to MPX but at the same time sound more refined/smooth and it is capable of more different reverb sounds. Together with ValhallaRoom you have an amazing palette of fantastic sounding reverb algorithms! For $50 each, I can't think of another reverb with a better price/quality ratio!
I have been testing LX480 and I can't deny that it's an amazing sounding reverb, and I would buy it without thinking twice if I could get it for half the price, but for now, I'm going to satisfy my reverb needs with ValhallaRoom and ValhallaVintageVerb, and I'm not feeling bad about it! :-)

Don't ya love living in the world now.... we all expect everything to cost $10.
$399 for this reverb is a steal, it's ludicrous to suggest that it's too expensive. (This is not made at Foxconn by 10 year olds)

Stef. | I absolutely agree. This is something really good that directly(parameter by parameter) replaces a very expensive studio hardware tool. Even if the cheaper competitors sound just as "good", the workflow of the LX480 is something that a professional engineer who´s been working with the HW can get into immediately and get great results instantly instead of learning new workflows. Therefore, it´s a professional tool with a professional price.
I´m not that engineer, but I love the sound of it. Just been digging in to it for a couple of days, and it is really different for me anyway. It just sits effortlessly in the mix.
Going to buy, hope to be able to raise the funds before the introductory offer ends..

Stef. | Not sure if your reply was directed at me, but just in case it is, I can safely say I have never said everything should be $10.
I just added up the total amount of money I have spend on plugins in 2012 and it's a little over $850. Not a lot compared to some other hotshots but hey, I don't buy something for fun and it is still mostly a hobby, funds are limited!
