Thread Starter | CraneSong Falcon - 500-series tube compressor
I post as I don't see it mentioned yet. There seems to be a 500-series compressor coming from Cranesong. The "Falcon" is up on their site.
There is God and there is Dave Hill so expectations are up there!

Tubes from Crane? that's a first
Opto LA2A style?
interesting tho', parallel on board, linkable,
attack and release look like a 3 positions,
and the "color" seems a HP filter (according to the 100) |

Nice stuff, I've been waiting on this one...!
Man the 500 format is just bursting at the seams lately, and showing no signs of stopping.

Really surprised. Several brands such as Crane Song, SSL and BAE have now come on board the 500 train. Pity I don't need anymore hardware!!!

Wondering if this will be like a 500 series version of the Summit TLA-100?

I know this will sound great because all Dave's gear sounds great. The linking option for several units is also very unique in a 500, but the lack of a high-pass is a concern. A lot of modern tracks have enough low energy to drive traditional opto's into pumping when that is not whats needed. I hope to have an opportunity to try a pair.

Any news on these things? Has anyone heard them yet?
I am very interested in a single-slot 500-series tube opto comp, as far as I know this is the only one out there.
I won't need that much GR because this is only for tracking, so if the sound has a nice vibe, it could be useful for me.
I currently own a Retro Double wide. Very quality piece, tons a character, but to slow in the attack and heavy in the low-mids for some things. I think I'm looking for something more along the lines of a TLA-100 or CL1B.

If I want to end up with a usable pair of these, do I have to buy two "matched" ones or can a 2nd be added later?

Unfortunately they are still not shipping, kind of hard to know at this point. I do look forward to checking them out soon-ish.
