My mind just got blown. This thing is unreal. I just put it on a drum buss with the aggressive comp drum preset and it made the track come alive. This is already the most analogue sounding plug I have heard. And it only takes 2% of my Quad's processing power per instance!!!!!!

68 mono or 68 stereo instances on a QUAD. That's insane!!! Why the hell Massive Passive requires an entire chip?!? Wonderful job from Brainworx, seems like they find the right way (think also on their new V2 Bx_XL that uses 50% less cpu than before!) to make wonderful emulations without killing cpu's.
This thing is a big winner. I am utterly speechless as to how good it sounds. I have been unsatisfied with plugin compressors on the 2-buss up until now. Got tired of chasing the 3D and glue and mojo. Now I can't take it off! God help us all. ITB is getting very exciting.
Hello to the initial hype as usual. Whenever new plug-in comes, it's the best, 3 weeks later no one ever mentions it but than people start to mention their old favorites.
Dry/Affected sound samples people with settings used!
I´ve also downloaded 6.3.2 and:
These guys...
...were so kind to allow me to use and recompile their audio (CD just released) to create a small demo vid of the SHMC.
I´m currently on it, and I´ve got 4 instances of the SHMC open - a thing that would be impossible in the "real" world.
The SHMC is on:
-guitar
-bass
-drumbus
-master
This is not just an amazing bus compressor, sounds awesome on individual tracks as well!

That doesn't make sense. If that happened with every plugin, then how would anyone ever have an old favourite ???
I have never used a Brainworks plugin nor do I work for either company and I just demoed the Shadow Hills Mastering Comp today and it is insanely good. It feels like I am working with a NICE analogue piece of gear. Take that for what its worth.
I haven't even gotten to the master buss yet...but it's kind of the jshit on drum bus and bass. Took me a while to figure out what the hell I was doing, but once I did...wow. I could see this one taking over drum bus duties immediately. No idea if it sounds like the real thing, but it's a very valuable sound shaper...unlimited options in the palette.

Just so us skeptics can become believers, too... anyone using this SHMC and finding it "scary good", "amazing"... post up your raw file or files, plus the SHMC processed files, and let us find out for ourselves if it does anything so "scary good" and "amazing" that another plug-in comp can't touch.
I'm such a skeptic, that I'm thinking I'll at least match it if not better it with just my Sonalksis compressors . If not, I got a lot of others to compare it to .
Before I demoed this today I was thinking why do companies keep making compressor plugs....I have so many...I don't need more compressors...then I demoed it. The UAD plague set in. One side of my brain says you need this...one side says no...regardless it's great on the 2 buss. Even cool on some subs..doesn't seem to use a lot of resources. Never had the hardware..never will so I can't speak to that..so I won't, unlike some people who have decided it already sucks because UA made it..even though they don't have a UAD card and will never actually use it.

It does look like a lot of fun to play with, though, with all those options!
Edit: After watching and listening to that UAD Promo for the SHMC (in 1080p), I gotta say... Peter Reardon may be happy with it, but there seems like a pretty huge difference in quality in that first drum clip when he's switching between the real thing and the plug-in. The real thing sounds smooth and silky. The plug-in... doesn't.
Having never used the original I don't have the beginning's of a clue as to how close Brainworx got to the original but I'm definitely keeping this one. Two instances in my system only used 3% of my Quad and it really does sound great on drums and mixbuss. Punchy and wide but controlled. The transformer options provide choices I didn't expect and are very welcome. I have a ton of work so I'm going to take advantage of the Demo until the client pays the next few songs and that will be that. I will happily post examples then. Great job Brainworx.

Very nice.UA should pay you for the demo.I could hear it all.Great plugin, now to decide whether to pony up for another quad or bump up to an octo custom?

Why don't you demo it yourself so I don't have to do the work for you
Wow, I'm usually a huge UAD fan, but I have to say this one kinda disappoints...I'm a huge compressor junkie and have tons of hi end hardware compressors but have always wanted the SH...but...
The hardware in the video sounds NOTHING like the plugin. It reminds me of how my Hardware La2a sounds compared to the 10 year old UA La2a plug in..crunchy, flat and lifeless whereas the hardware sounds big, 3D and exciting. I guess what can you expect for $300 though compared to $6k+?
The funny thing is, when they ask Peter Reardon how he thinks it sounds, he doesn't give a straight answer and leaves it up to the listener lol. Well he does say he is "very pleased", but me thinks he's "very pleased" with the royalty checks he'll be getting on this thing once they start selling downloads...
I'm listening on Barefoot MM27's through Lavry converters, and maybe the difference is a lot less noticeable on cheaper monitors, but they ain't foolin me.
Oh well, I shouldn't be complaining as you get what you pay for, but UA had my hopes up with this one. Darn...
If you're demoing this, be warned - it almost every preset on the SHMC it makes it sound "better" right away, but check out the huge volume boost on each one of them...usually by more than a dB. Ah the good old 'louder is better trick'. Every time I volume matched it with the original unprocessed track, the 'NO plugin' mix won every time.
I'm gonna mess around with this some more, but I have to say I'm pretty bummed out and I was planning on buying this right away, but it's looking like I may not even bother for $300.
I guess digital still can't nail compression like analogue can...at least this makes me feel really good about all my hardware toys! ...the only downside is now I'm going to have to spend over $6k to get the hardware edition of the SH haha
After trying it out, IMHO it doen't hold a candle to my three favourite masterbuss compressos plugins: Slate compressor in FG-X and Native Instruments Vari-Comp and DMGAudio Compassion. I must admit I have never been a huge fan of Brainworx compressors (Elysia, Vertigo). Native instrument's compressor really does heavily tax my CPU, but I guess with a reason.
I have to agree... disappointment. Maybe my expectations were too high from UAD. It doesn't seem to have the same magic (like the new 1176's remodeled) and it sounds a bit heavy handed. In my blind listening, it was easy for me to pick SHMC because of the louder levels coming from it.
I own some SH hardware, and I wanted to love this, but it falls short to my ears.
Did anybody else notice a slow response from the user interface? Maybe I just need another reboot, the VU meters seem to track very slow.

Well I am certainly not hearing this big difference through my Rosetta---->Focal Solo6 w/ Sub6. Definitely has a very similar character to the hardware.

Well to be fair, the Barefoots and Lavry are a massive step up from focal/Rosetta (but also a lot more money).
I used to own focal twins and still own Ad/DA16x's...there's no contest between them and my setup now.

I have the new uad 1176 and NI's new Vari-compressor,how does the shadow hill match up in your ooinion.
