After watching the video, I'm really hoping it'll work with nice latency @ 48khz on our tracking rig. Really hoping this pans out. Keep the news coming, gents!

Seeing this video makes me think I just don't get why you chose such a tiny metering display compared to all the front panel estate there is...

To get the number of I/O so high it's necessary to keep power consumption (becomes heat) as low as possible. Small metering on front panel is one part of this. It's still there to give an indicator of signal present. When you see it in person, you'll realize it's helpful. The software metering is very useful when a more detailed view is needed.

Marcel

What buffer size did you use in this example?

What latency did it give you?

Apologies. I was saying that cost may have been a factor for the lack of comprehensive meters on the front panel... Forgive my brevity.

Just ordered this one. I'll be doing some latency and pro tools compatibility testing through USB and hd hardware. I'll let you know how it goes.

Would one of the reasons MAC won't modify their USB to operate at full spec for audio be because its pushing thunderbolt as an audio solution? surely?

No zero latency dsp mixing though right? I think I'll keep my UFX after seeing the wee demo of the mixing software... I realise it will probably develop more than that... Great move though, respect to Antelope. 32 i/o in one unit.. nice. Now I just wish I could afford their mastering converters.

Nope, they got back to us and never had a device to test it fully on before. So, we're working on that.. :-)

Again, sorry wrong. That was NOT the mixing software, it was the routing software. There will be another mixer..

Thanks for the "respect". Stay tuned over Thanksgiving weekend for some pricing news, btw.

Hopefully pricing news doesn't equal 'price hike'...

Um, not true. What have we rushed "out"? Is it out? I think we have a right to debut a product at a trade show and ship it a couple months later. In the process, building some anticipation. We've done this each year for seven years and it's worked out well, so far.

Marcel

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be quite "mastering" quality, so I may be going for the Hilo.

Who said that? I sure never did. I'll absolutely use it on masters.. It's just that I'll still use Eclipse on things, as well.

I even ran some masters through it and I plan to continue to do so on projects when I get back as a "playback/transfer" dac.. It's thick, but yet very clean in the mid-range and tonally articulate. (guitars, piano, synths sound especially great. I spent 5 hours just going through my old 70's and 80's music and haven't enjoyed listening to music this much in years!) I'd still rather monitor with an Eclipse when mastering and I love the monitor routing on it, as well.
That is the impression I got from one of your earlier posts. Perhaps I misinterpreted it.
I hope some mastering engineers will do a comparison with the Hilo, Mytek and Lavry units as soon as it goes on the market so I can finally get my "mastering" converters.

I think when something is offering 32 i/o, it probably isn't directly marketed at mastering but I don't believe that excludes it from mastering.
For many users like me, having something that covers both areas well would be a great thing.

I could see how the Orion and Hilo could co exist in a studio.
One would definitely enhance the other.
Both offer great ad/da conversion whereas the Hilo offers reference grade headphone and monitoring and great routing.

You could send the Orion to a Burl audio Vancouver for summing and onto your 2track.

Cheers

If you need more, just create more tracks and send them to a group with 100% wet reverb on....
Same thing went through my mind. Then boom your comment. Sound is cool

As 'stem-mastering' becomes more in vogue at big Mastering Houses these days, that's where I see this box being used in the Mastering world...

Hook it into a Dangerous 2 Bus, Vancouver, or Equinox and you're rockin

How much latency is there in the Orion at 32 channels in and 32 out @ 96kHz via USB, via ADAT and also via MADI?
