Massey Plugins Inc Release the CT5

Howdy Gear Slutz. I wanted y'all to be some of the first to know. Steve says Howdy. Enjoy!

August 27: Today, Massey Plugins Inc. releases their long awaited compressor update, the CT5.
The CT5 is a revision of their popular CT4 compressor. The sonic characteristics that made the CT4 such a versatile and easy-to-use compressor remain intact. "The core sound remains 99% the same; I'm tweaking one of the internal filters for the better and improving the dynamic range of the compression circuit," says Steven Massey.
The new model improves on a good thing by adding a more aggressive, higher ratio compression curve option, a wet-dry signal blending control, and sidechain input capability. Further, Steven explains, “The highest compression setting on the CT4 is equivalent to about 8 on the CT5, even without the limit option enabled. Thus, more compression is available to the user, which is, of course, better."
Many of these new features were implemented due to customer requests. "We encourage feedback, not just from the beta testers, but from everyday users," says the newest guy at Massey Plugins, Kevin Weber. "I truly enjoy checking in on our web forum and seeing what folks have to say. Sure there are some unrealistic requests, but some spot on ones as well. We take those ideas to heart, even the crazy ones."
The CT5 is bundled alongside the CT4 with a price of $75. Existing CT4 owners can upgrade to the new package for a nominal $3. The plugin is available for purchase and download at Massey Plugins Inc. and will be offered in AudioSuite, RTAS, and TDM plug-in formats.

I've checked by balances and decided that I can afford to spend the $3 for the upgrade although it's the end of the month ;-).

PS: I had been able to download CT-5 about a minute later :-).
PPS: I noticed a VST beta (Windows) for Tapehead... Not that I care, but others might.

Yup, and I'd be willing to place a bet that Massey will make more off his $3 upgrade price than GM will off his upgrade at $600. Creative outside the box thinking is what it takes to survive in this market, and Massey has it dialed. Much kudo's & respect to someone so forward thinking in his business model.

Wow, that's great news! I always loved the CT4 but after a few minutes of using the CT5 I think it's really a step-up which really says something...

And did you all note that there's a 'Parallel Compression' control now??!

Thanks so much!

My Recordings/Credits

Just installed and played with it for 2 mins. Sounds Great and I can tell it is already a legit upgrade. Again, another reason why I own most all of Massey's plugs. He is the real deal.

Thanks for the great work as always.

Thanks to all at Massey! The blend knob is priceless and the limit mode is awesome. I own most of massey's plugs and for $3, this upgrade is too cool. Still blown away by DRT as well.

And while avid/gm will most likely lose customers Massey will gain more.

Just grabbed this. I have all Massey plugs except the de-esser. TBH I would buy his stuff straight off unheard, the quality is that good BUT Steve I would would pay more than $3 for an upgrade.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate your plugs and pricing but it seems wrong to get an upgrade of this quality for the price of a cup of coffee. These things take
time, energy and a commitment to excellence to do.

Either way you rock

I'd certainly buy most of them. I've demoed them all so many times and always just wish either there was an AU or I worked exclusively in Pro Tools.

I agree totally, 3 dollar upgrade price is DRT cheap (lol). But Massey's marketing has always been this way, in that all of his plugins and upgrades have always been the best. I'm assuming his mindset was that bc the plugin was based on an older one that just needed some tweaks and new things, he didn't want to charge for a totally new plugin.

Don't try to rebel, he wont change his mind! Us beta testers already tried to tell him that 3 dollars was crazy cheap!

see, that wasn't so hard now was it ?

Come on Steve, talk a walk on the wild side. I think Slate, Waves and UAD sold a couple of their tape sim's for VST users since you came out with yours first

OK. So I checked under the couch cushions - found $.75....looked in the car ashtray....got another $1.27......borrowed $.98 from my son and upgraded CT4 to CT5.

The comp is seriously cool. Adds not only some excellent new features (LOVE the middle attack Steve), but a distinctively new sound to the plug.

Come on Steve. $3.00? I mean, I love the price, but I want you to have MORE. Is there a paypal we can donate to? Somewhere we can support Massey just cause we LOVE what you do and how you do it.

This is the no-brainer deal of the decade. Can't wait for Massey's next offering.....

And the coolest part is that you aren't losing CT4, its a bundle. You're paying for the CT5 addition to the CT4. So it isn't upgrading, as much as an "add-on!"
