Software XLN Audio coming with: Addictive Keys

Hey folks!

Yes you read the title very well. Just stumbled into this on #twitter (leaked by Magnus Lidström) and I believe XLN followed the path of #Toontrack and coming out very soon with their Piano VSTi.

Check the Youtube Video Intro:

One thing, very nice Intro Video sounding amazing

XLN Audio presents Addictive Keys - a powerful music production and songwriting software setting a new standard for virtual keyboard instruments. Available late August 2012.

I like the singer but don't like the sound of the piano in that clip.

Well, there seems to be a lot of compression/limiting on the piano. In this clip it doesn't sound particularly natural, yet powerful. Interesting.

I think the velocity response curve is not matched to the keyboard or something. The hard notes jump out as too hard. Apart from that, I like the sound. And Steven is the man.

Nice idea but despite the issue with velocity curves the piano sound in this demo leaves a lot to be desired. Interested to hear a different demo...

Hello everyone!

There's been many late nights working with this new product of ours and we were a bit tired yesterday and unfortunately uploaded the wrong version of the video and it managed to spread before we went public with it.
The sound and sync on that video wasn't right.
We've now uploaded the RIGHT version of the same video and I hope you like it.
More info about Addictive Keys will follow the coming weeks.
Addictive Keys will be available late August.

Here's the new link to the video:

So you guys went back into the midi file and clamped the velocities at 100 max?

XLN drums are a BEAST my favorite VSTi, my only issue ever with them is the same as what I heard on this initial video...velocities over about 110 blister out sonically, almost like they should shift their mapping towards the other, softer end of the spectrum. Anyone who has used XLN drums probably experienced this with their snares as well.

That being said, STAND UP COMPANY, will be trying this out when its available>

Agreed. It sounded like a decent Yamaha synth piano at best.

Pass.

I bought ezkeys from toontrack, but never use it as the piano sound is mediocre compared to my other piano libraries, and it's USP, which is the plugin's chord sequencer, is a pain to use as it resets every time you import new midi into it. If this has a sequencer with chord transpose which works then I would be interested.

That's why there are a million different piano plugins out there. People all have different ideas of what a piano should sound like. This one would work well for me.

Yeah, the PSR rocks!

I'm interested to hear the other two instruments. I suppose one will be an electric piano of some sort.

On their site, it says '3' instruments on the addictive Keys..
Me thinks Piano, Rhodes and Wurlitzer is what they are going to have....
That could be a nice little package as a work horse as I love XLN drums myself. Thoughts?

The photos show 2 instruments out of 3.

So, there's still one to be guessed.

Should be the built-in effects.

I beta tested this plug in and fell in love with it from the beginning i couldn't wait to buy it. Now I just need them to add a wurlitzer pack and maybe a clavinet. This is my go to piano/keyboard studio

Hmm, I'm working on a record right now with half the songs recorded on a real Steinway B in a recording studio in Berlin. For the rest of the songs I've been trying a few virtual piano instruments and I bought Ivory II specifically for this production - I'm totally disappointed with Ivory! The tuning of the instruments, especially the Steinway and the Boesendorfer is far from perfect.

I pulled up the demo of the new Addictive Keys Steinway - tweaked the sound a little bit - and it was hard to tell the difference from the real Steinway when you listen to it in the song. I'm sold.
