New Pro Audio Video-Podcast...

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know about The Sonic Valentine. A buddy and I started doing a video podcast specially for recording engineers.

It is basically two guys getting drunk and talking about gear. We do some funny stuff to keep it light while talking about new gear.

The first episode was kinda a drunken mess while the second episode was a bit more informative.

I am really looking for some feedback, so let us know what you think we should do.

You can subscribe via iTunes here.

Or download it directly from our website @ www.sonicvalentine.com

Thanks,
Ben Strano

Thanks and great job. Look forward to more episodes.!!

Best part was episode 2 where you hit yourself in the jewels with the Male end of an XLR while rocking out to Skuleton.

Sweet...

I watched it a week or so ago - was mildly entertaining, and had moments, but ...

IMO,

Spending more time with gear, and less on trying to be comical is best. I'd like to see 'real' shootouts with gear, more quality time with products used in real-world situations, and maybe some comedy as breaking up the possible monotony of endless gear drivel.

Not that it's bad, but getting drunk on camera is less entertaining to the audience than it is for the partiers...

All the best with it.

Guys, you are going to have to do some Yuengling, IC Light or Iron City endorsements to get Plughead to watch your podcast..

I enjoyed it a lot, well done!

I think getting the balance between the comedy and the information right will get harder as the series progresses, and the novelty wears off bit, but I hope you keep the humour in. I didn't watch the first episode because of the drunken influence.

I watched both episodes. My thoughts:
Theme song is way too long.
Work on the lighting
Video compression could be better
Audio DEFINATELY needs work
A lot of the stories have a SNL "this skit is going on too long" feel. My time is valuable, don't waste it.
Show don't tell-audio clips illustrating your point are essential especially with gear reviews, you do own a studio after all...
put in some close ups of the gear
The little graphic segments are usually very funny you could do a couple more of those actually
Your skit about wrapping cables was funny
Segment the show more. Having "chapters", even informal ones, will help the flow of the show.
Overall it just needs a lot of tightening up and more attention to the timing (especially comic) of the segments.
For gods sake get some haircuts, take a bath, and shave. Hairy, dirty, and messy is no way to podcast.
Thanks for doing it. I'm sure you guys will make it great. You're off to a good start!

MOM!!!!???

Thanks for all the great comments guys. Episode three should be out soon and I think a lot of you will see that we have been paying attention to what you have to say.

This episode will have a some examples and (I think) is a little more on topic. This is just two guys having fun... but ya... we need to work on some stuff.

Lighting... well... it is all dependant on what studio we are working in. We usually just do it at the end of a session (well we did sneak into sound kitchen's C room for #2).

Sound... no excuse there... we will get that tightened up. Probably gonna get some laveliers for #4.

Bad jokes... Can't help it... just being us.

Bad Hair... you can just cut that stuff off?

Thanks again,
Ben

you could get some cheap clip lamps from a hardware store and some lighting gels from a photo place. Very cheap, very portable. Done it myself.

Great idea with the clip on lamps and gels... we should do that.

That is why I am asking you guys for help... we don't know what we are doing.

BTW... episode three should be out in about a week.

Umm... I would factor to say that a large majority of engineers feel right at home
with the way they "look"

This isnt a CNN broadcast..

Next time you guys should do the podcast live from GUITAR CENTER at the front of their "Pro Audio" Dept..

Hey guys,

SV3 is up. We talk about control surfaces including the D-Command, and the Fader Port. We also shoot out UA's 1073 knock off eq with the real deal.

We have been taking your comments into consideration and I think it shows. The audio still sucks but we will work on that next time.

Thanks guys,

I was really impressed with the UA- Neve test.. I would love to hear some more sources before making final call on it. Also, I picked up the high end sizzle you ugys talked about. Still sounded pleasant..

Guess Ill wait for a new Dsp card from UA as well.

btw, someones cell phone was cutting into the audio portion of your commentary.
may want to turn it off next time..

Keep it up ..!

For vidcasts ie short interviews, how problematic is drift/sync if audio is recorded with separate gear?

Thanks

Total Waste of Time

I watched 3 episode with my mouse permanetly on "Fast Foward". Boy, what a waste of time. Too many (bad) jokes, not enough straight info and pictures. If this is the world of audio engineering, I want nothing to do with it.

They obviously take their cue from DiggNation, where two guys are getting drunk while rambling on anything and everything. After seeing Kenvin Rose throw up, I stopped watching that too. All these guys need an independant editor/producer to cut the crap out.

Don't want to be to hard on the brothers, but this looks more like a vanity project than a genuine desire to share information and/or tips. Wish MW had a Podcast...

Two thumbs way down...
