PSP BussPressor Plugin

Psp are happy to announce their latest release: PSP BussPressor, a brand new compressor optimized for group and master buss processing. PSP BussPressor combines the sound of classic VCA compression with wide tuning capabilities. Extra controls allow you to adjust a side chain high pass filter or apply parallel compression.

The fully operational 14 days demo (which doesn't require a hardware dongle) is available now on their download page.

What is the difference between this and the Old Timer ME which is a great buss compressor?

Isn't old timer more "tube - opto" instead of VCA? Not a big deal but I wish they would have gone with the look of Neon/Xenon instead of the older stuff but certainly won't matter at all if it sounds as good as those!

I'm thinking, what's the difference between this and their Mastercomp?

Compared it quickly with glue on 2-bus, and where glue can be described as "elegant" this plugin has a bit more attitude. Its easier to make it pump along with the music but without making it sound congested or strained. I also like its attack characteristics, can be very snappy without being pointy. No plugin revolution, but indeed very good. I will buy it.

PSP are consistently good and I appreciate their personal nature and down to earth marketing.

Will be demo-ing this later. If this can persuade me to purchase instead of the API2500 from Waves for bus duties I will be over the moon at that price.

Tried it briefly and agree with you about the difference from the Glue. Haven't tried them with the same settings though. Might be more suited for hiphop than the Glue. Problem is there's really not enough time to evaluate before the introductory price vanishes ...

I'm quite sure this will be great. Old timer is pretty much my fav itb bus compressor already, but it would be nice to have something a little more aggressive and grabby. Mastercomp is amazing but I think it shines as a gentle rms compressor rather that the traditional ssl smart type mix bus comp.

Anyone care to post a mix with The Glue, then Oldtimer, and finally BussPressor? Would be really cool. I've used up my demo on the Oldtimer ...

Demoed it, I still like The Glue better. I think it's a case of most gearslutz always thinking that the latest is the greatest.

Not true! The Glue was always missing the last 10% for me to buy it.
This gets a "Yes" from me! Does that "buss thing" just as good but with more vibe, which I prefer.

Same here, tried the glue several times but never liked it better or over my other comps. This I will purchase.

Could someone explain why this is suited to buss compression as opposed to track compression? Is it better optimised for buss duities than the otherPSP compressors?

There's no rules of course but buss compressors have a certain sound which busses (especially ones with drums) benefit from.
Usually you don't want to hit a buss comp very hard (even 1dB of GR often does the job. I never compress more than 3-4dB on my mixbuss)

OldTimer ME is great on busses as well but this one glues in it's own way, mainly aiming for a punchy "knocking" or "ticking" attack (drumbuss/mixbuss)
while e.g. Oldtimer has something more "pillow-y" and tube-y.

PSP Mixpressor is great for drastic "slamming" compression, to bring some dirt into sounds
(where OT and BP are not the first choice to push your sounds into dirt/distortion)

Of course BussPressor will work great on single sounds!

I don't think the less than ten people posting above are "most of gearslutz" really. Bare in mind this plugin has been out for such a small amount of time.

I've not tried "The Glue" but I did own a hardware GSSL clone and I actually like this plugin better, it just sounds less grabby and more dynamic in the low end, whereas most VCA/SSL styles I've heard you can tip over really quickly into "accidentally flattened".

works out 42 quid for me as I own quite a lot of their plugins already, can't so no really!

I am loving the BussPressor demo. I own OldTimer, but I feel like I may end up getting more use out of this one.

I was expecting something more utilitarian, but as early posters have said, it has "attitude" and can really slam the drums buss. PSP knows what I like.

This one does an excellent job at preserving the low end with the sc filter at 11 o'clock
