arts|UNMUTED qb - ultimate control surface for Cubase & Nuendo
I am excited to present arts|UNMUTED qb – the ultimate control surface for Cubase and Nuendo for Liine Lemur for iPad. qb offers almost 1000 unique controllers organized in logical workflow groups that ensure comprehensive control over:
project, MIDI and audio editors,
selected channel settings,
automation panel,
mixer settings,
control room
and mediabay.
Apart from that, qb features the menus module that reflects the menu system in Cubase and Nuendo. Now you you can touch almost all commands available in your favourite DAW! Additionally, many controllers offer bi-directional communication which ensures proper feedback on changing tracks or automation.
arts|UNMUTED qb is not another Mackie Control emulation. It has been designed as a modern full blown control surface offering the functionality known from expensive consoles like Avid MC Pro (which was a source of inspiration for some parts and mechanisms implemented in qb). The template is heavily scripted and contains many dynamic elements that interact with you upon selection.
Now for $49 you can have total control over Steinberg’s DAWs in a ultra compact form – just put your lemurized iPad on your analog console or your piano or synth and enjoy the creative experience you have always dreamt about.
To get more info, have a look at the videos below and download the artsUNMUTED qb manual in the Download section at Home.
Happy music making with arts|UNMUTED qb!

Nice. Would be cool if you could setup your own key command smart buttons a la EUCON. Seems to be a lot of navigating around in menus and submenus and for me it would just be faster to do it with a mouse in Nuendo. Though the real benefit of something like this would be remote control obviously, rather than a traditional control surface.
Thanks for kind words! Unfortunately, no demo is available at the moment.
As far as the Eucon is concerned, I have Avid MC Pro in my studio, and qb is faster in many respects - there are some limitations and quirks but honestly it is extremely powerful. Also editing the template is not very complicated - when you are familiar with Lemur editor is as fast as assigning commands on Avid MC Pro. qb is provided with generic remote xml files that contain nearly all available commands asinged to CC messages. Open the xml file in a text editor, find the command you would like to assign, open Lemur editor, choose the switch, rename it as needed and change the outgoing CC message. Reload the template. Done.
In my studio I use 2 ipads - one for arts|UNMUTED templates for orchestral libs that I use - they allow me to select tracks in Nuendo and have comprehensive control over the instruments. Another iPad for qb which works as a controller. Lemur faders and knobs feel really smooth and are very responsive and precise - no iOS app can match it (I have tested them all:-).
I plan to develop qb as well as other templates for sound libraries and offer appropriate support. BTW, this week we will see the template for 8dio Adagio strings - I am finalizing the expression maps now:-).

Man, you guys aren't messing around! Awesome to see developers working this quickly on apps that integrate with newly released products. Looks like it's time for me to buy a 2nd iPad....
(Un)fortunately, qb is not a stand-alone app. It is a template for Liine Lemur for iPad - an amazing MIDI control app that was ported from hardware devices called Jazz Mutant Lemur. It is available in the app store. It is an amazing app with great potentials.
Now, while creating qb, I wanted to go beyond faders - unfortunately, Lemur has got limited file size for one template (2MB) and qb reaches it, so I didn't include the traditional Mackie Control mixer. Instead you have got only one super responsive long fader that controls the selected channel. I prefer it this way - I found that on my MC pro I just used one selected channel fader most of the time. Some compromises had to be made. However, the fader feels great - it is super smooth and very responsive - you can't compare it with faders on other iOS apps. IMO one good fader is better that a bunch of bunch of jumpy and unresponsive controllers. I am sure, though, that qb will grow with user feedback and perhaps it will have a full blown mixer.

Ah cool! So you can have a whole page full of custom key command smart buttons. If I ever get a ipad this will be on my list.
I used it for a few hours today, and this thing has a LOT of depth....pretty amazing. I have been waiting for a dedicated Nuendo app for years, and this seems to be the frontrunner. And with the news of adding support for other software, I can see this becoming another appendage in the everyday studio setup.
thanks for the reply, i am def interested in getting this. i am a long time cubase user. however i don't follow exactly how to buy, set this up and use it
please tell me if this is correct
1) go to app store and get the lemur app
2) buy the new template from you?
3) how do i load it onto the lemur app?
4) how is it set up in Cubase?
i actually see using 2 ipads, one with this and one with Neyrink? can this be done?
1. You have to buy Lemur app.
2. You have to buy the template on Home. You will get two separate Lemur files (.jzml) for Cubase and Nuendo, two generic remote xml files and full documentation.
3. You will have to establish connection between your computer and Lemur - it is relatively easy. The info can be found in the qb manual and on Liine website.
4. After establishing the connection, you clikc the desired jzml file. The Lemur editor will open with the template. Click the triangle (pointing left) on the editor toolbar. Select your iPad and click the template. The template is loaded and ready to use.
5. In Nuendo load 2 Generic Remote files and set Lemur inputs and outputs according to the instructions in the manual.
6. You are ready to go.
If you have any problems with your setup, I will help you. Just send me an email.

Reason: spellings
Dowloaded it today and I have to say it's a truly well thought out piece of work that's streets ahead of the Mackie Control type templates.
Had a bit of a play with it in the studio and once I'd correctly set my MIDI ports (as clearly detailed in the manual) it worked perfectly with Cubase.
This product uses another product to work. You can't just buy qb, and put it on your iPad. It uses another piece of software (the amazing LEMUR) to work.
Therefore, unless LEMUR is ported to android, this will never run on android, and as far as I have heard, there are no current plans for this port to take place.
Make sense?
Cheers! Looking forward to getting this to work with my rig... might have to wait till the next bit of downtime though... I'm imagining that I'll want to change quite a few bits of my workflow at the same time.
most commands should work in Cubase apart from the new functions in Cubase 6. The Generic Remote mechanism is basically the same in both versions.
Great product!
I've been using Lemur and Cubase since it came out and, although I also use the selected channel and generic remote, I like using the surface lcd (with Mackie Control) to get channel names.
qb will grow with time:-) - there will be an update coming in June that will add some additional functions like track navigation by track numbers and custom user panel for macros and user favorite stuff. Multi fader mixer implementation will also happen, I guess.
3. You will have to establish connection between your computer and Lemur - it is relatively easy. The info can be found in the qb manual and on Liine website.
Finally, this sort of thing is the future.
A few questions. So using Mac and N5 I don't need any cables or additional midi junk right? Just Mac, iPad, Lemur, qb? Communication over wifi.
Is toggling between tracks a hassle? You need to set up a template or something so qb knows your Nuendo tracks? Can you just set up a generic 1-16 track template and it will always control those first 16 daw tracks? I like to keep things simple.
No waveform editing or anything like that, just control?
Thanks for making this so we can get away from these unmusical tools (the mouse!).
