Also mics vary much in the hotness of there output. I think that is very relevant to this style of Pre. Last on the guitar and female vocal clip (which sounds very good) there is some annoying sibilance that I assume is the Spark Microphone but having never used it I don't know!
Also remember Synths are very Popular now and your D/I sounds great on guitar, let's hear it on synths! Anyone say dynamic mics. It is such a crowded field( Preamps) these samples just could not hurt in this economy. Those that don't believe this quality can be had at such a price will become believers the more evidence you give!

Thanks for the feedback. I just moved my studio, it's in shambles, I need to geek everything out again so that I can listen to my samples and get some posted. My monitors aren't even plugged in at the moment. I just sent an email to the saxophonist asking for samples and will post those soon with permission.
We have sold a bunch of the WA12's now so hopefully WA12 owners out there will start finding their way to this thread. I've received a lot of positive emails through Warm Audio Microphone Pre-Amps too.
More units are on order to arrive late summer. We're getting low on stock here in the US, check with your retailer and grab one somewhat soon if you want one before the end of the summer.

this is my review of the Wa12.
Is in spanish, but you can listen to some samples and watch some nice graphs. Reviews peludas - Warm Audio WA12
For example, this is what the TONE button does:

Well I will definitely start asking more people for sound samples... I was given full wav files of 2 types of saxophones recording into the WA12. I was also given a full description of how everything was recorded along with other samples of other mic pres all recorded through the same mic, Neumann U89, for comparison.
I posted the WA12 samples through my site here: Warm Audio Microphone Pre-Amps | Listening Room
And for 7 days (through yousendit.com) you can download all of the comparison samples and description of the recordings recorded by Jeff Kashiwa, professional Saxophonist, his sites are: The Sax Pack - Home and Jeff Kashiwa. Jeff purchased his WA12 from Rich at lunchboxaudio.com in Seattle, what up Rich!
Yousendit.com address with all files: https://www.yousendit.com/dl?phi_act...08350200000000
I also uploaded Jeff's comments (in a pdf to this post) which are included in the yousendit.com files if you download those.
It becomes harder and harder to hear preamp differences on louder sources, but I still think they're noticeable here, especially on the quieter parts. Hope these help some people out there.
And of course, WA12 owners who have some samples that they want on Warm Audio Microphone Pre-Amps, let me know.

Just wanted to add that Jeff is a pro and teaches sax at a Seattle area college. We've been trying several preamps here to find the right one for him and this is the most excited he's been for a pre in the last year!

Thread Starter | WA12 preamp - New Sample
A reviewer in Spain recorded a track, according to his blog, completely with the WA12. The drums were electronic samples that were run through the WA12, drums, bass, vocals etc... were all recorded through the WA12.
From the sound of the blog the reviewer is a big fan of the "TONE" button, and by the sound of the track it sounds like the TONE button was pushed in for these takes.....the recording has the muddier, more vintage side of the preamp (due to the tone button).
My personal preference might think the vocals and some of the guitars might've sounded better with the TONE button OFF, but if a real VINTAGE tone is what the producer was going for, he landed it.
Here is the song: Tortilla de Patatas - Last time by tortilladepatatas on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free |

hey, this is ME
I promised there is no EQ at all in this track. Only hipass in vocals, acoustic and electric guitars.
I compressed a lot while tracking with an 1176 and La-2a, over 12db.
In the mix I only add a little reverb on vocals.
No more processes at all.
And yes, I recorded all the tracks with the TONE button IN. I love it and I think the sound becomes more "expensive" and vintage.
Great pre.

The European units are just getting finished up to be shipped out. Manufacturing delays are not uncommon so no promises, but early-mid July should be realistic if everything goes as planned. And yes, feel free to contact microphone | microphones | to get more detailed timing.

Oh, and last I was told 312 GBP would be the price for the UK, subject to change, but the distributor felt pretty confident this would be the price.

Hi
I live in the UK.
I am very interested in purchasing the WA12.
Two questions
1st Is the WA12 suitable to use with a ribbon mic. As i use one to record my sax.
2nd You mentioned earlier in the thread that it with be available in early/mid July in the UK. Is that still the case?
Cheers Keith.

Thanks for your interest.
Yes and yes. Ribbons are a go, there is plenty of gain especially with the 6db added with the TONE button. The lower 150 ohm impedance setting will probably suit the ribbon better, depends on your ribbon mic. Try both settings, but I would guess that with the TONE button engaged you will get great results (TONE BUTTON engaged is 150 ohms).
The schedule still has us on time, with units to be shipped in the first week of July. Get in touch with recording-microphones.co.uk around the 10th and if they don't have them yet they should definitely have a date of arrival. Anything can happen with manufacturing delays, but we're looking good at this point, so we should be shipping out to the UK here shortly.

Keith. | Awesomeness , I love hearing from users once they've played with their unit, let me know what you think.
For the AEA R84 you might find that you like it better with the "TONE" button OUT, try both.

Hi, I'm looking to purchase the WA12, but I'm interested in hearing samples or feedback on how well this pre sounds for heavier distorted guitars and bass. Most bands I work with are in the Metal genre and want the big fat kick sounds, tighter snares, heavier guitars, etc. Anyone have any input on how this pre performs in the hard-rock/metal genre? All the audio samples I've heard so far is of a lot mellower music. Thanks!

-Virgil | COMING SOON BRO!! Hopefully I'll be able to get King Conquer in the studio to record a new song, using nothing but the WA12 for ALL sources (drum buss printed through stereo pair of WA12 later on) with the tone button OUT to see how aggressive and VIOLENT we can make this orange BEAST!!!

The Warm WA12 now has mounting facilities to work with the Raxxess UNS-1 tray, so rack mounting single or in stereo pairs is now quite easy for these preamps.

I don't have the cad, but ran a bunch of other mics through the warm. A jolly modded NT-1a, shure sm7b, Akg414 and Peluso CMC-6's among others. They all sounded excellent through the WA-12-500. I also have Great River and Burl pre's here. I really think this warm is a great buy. As far as beefiness and clean gain, it's holding it's own against my Burl B1D. And I think the Burl is a great pre. But at half the cost it says a lot to say that it sounds that good.
