DER OTO upgrade for BISCUIT

OTO MACHINES introduces "Der OTO", a new firmware update for its BISCUIT FX processor.

Der OTO turns Biscuit into a 2 oscillators monosynth with a 16 step sequencer, for FREE !

- 2 oscillators with Saw, Square, Sine, FM, Noise,
- Glide and detune,
- One Envelope Generator (Mod to Filter and Pitch) with Attack, Decay and Sustain pots,
- One LFO with Triangle, Square and S/H waves (Mod to Filter and Pitch),
- AM Mod, Swap, XOR, bit-reducer FX,
- 16 step sequencer (Tap or MIDI sync) with transpose: Note, Length, Accent (with Master pot) and Glide on each step,
- 8 user Synth presets and 8 user Sequencer presets,
- 8 Synth factory presets,
- Key combination to easily switch between Biscuit and Synth mode.

You can buy a special overlay and make your own one.

I'm really digging this unlikely synth. The combination of the Biscuit multimode stereo filter with the 8bit digital oscillators makes for something really new and fresh. The sound is huge and direct and very different from my analog hardware.
The little sequencer is very easy to use especially with a midi keyboard.
With the overlay it took me a couple of hours to really get used to the ergonomics and it's well layed out.
The swap, xor, and ringmod digital mixermodes are really noteworthy and gritty. I messed around with CC's for automating parameters and it worked fine. It's also cool that you can change presets and sequences independently.
It's slightly quirky in that no 2 notes sound exactly the same which is a bit of a surprise coming from a digital box but it makes it come alive.
And the fact that one get's all this for free is just so cool.

Not only does it look great, it sounds wonderful and totally different from yet another (yawn) analog ripoff. Actually I don't think I've ever heard a digital synth do anything like this.

Really nice effort by Oto machines. Denis you're a genius.

Thanks

A few things I couldn't figure out so far...

Can somebody tell me if the sequencer of DER OTO is comparable to e.g. a Korg Electribe? Especially as far as the following questions are concerned:

In all videos I found so far, each step triggers a sound. I suppose it's possible to silence steps, right?

Is it possible to run DER OTO as a midi-slave?

You mentioned that the sequencer is especially useful when used in combination with a midi-keyboard. Is the sequencer able to record the notes I send via midi keyboard? How about time correction, does the sequencer move the notes to the nearest step or does it leave them as they were played?

Thanks for your help!

It's rather similar to a TB303, you select a step, choose it's pitch and accent, length and glide, then choose the next step. Not really like an electribe

Each step is either on or off

DER OTO syncs as soon as it receives midi clock automatically

The midi keyboard can either input the pitch of each step when programming the seq or transpose the whole sequence

You don't record notes in real time, this is a step sequencer, there is no time correction
