the sound of the compresor part is just fantastic

the saturation and density part are good but need to edit whith care; if not, you can destroy mone tham resolve ,; soft values are best

I recall reading somewhere that the offer was open for 30 days and in unison with NAMM2012 ... you never know with good dev's releasing vst and repromoing.

Saying that I bought now as license covers all formats inc VST sometimes an advantage to ilok protected software...can't wait to activate it on the ol'Dngle'Dongle ....o0O)))>

I'm digging it. For $149, it's a no-brainer.

I agree with using the saturation with care, or not at all
if it isn't needed. It can sound good in the instance because
it's louder... but further down the line in the mastering stage,
who knows.

The compressor is a very nice bus comp for drums, I'm liking
the entire plug-in used subtly, soft settings, parallel. And I'm
enjoying the UBK approach to labeling parameters and interface
design.

I'm becoming more and more discerning with software compressors,
limiters, and to a degree EQ. Something weird is happening with
the "artificial" harmonic distortion modeling where it's sounding
grainy... plus weird transient interactions.

EDIT: I reread this and I should make it clear that I'm finding this
on almost all recent emulations and UBK is the best, especially
since it's more under your control.

That said, the UBK is one of the best ITB ones I've used and I
appreciate the wet/dry on both the compressor and saturation.

This plugin looks cool. Reminds me of what you can do with SSL Drumstrip which is an awesome plug to.

We got mac vst too, and I expect all 7 users of that platform will buy it too!

Does the RTAS/VST have external sidechain capabilities?
I don't see it in the AU window within Logic, not sure if
it is AU related or just not a feature of the UBK-1.

Yes, and getting it working properly in AU is next on the list after Windows VST, because I'm a sidechaining freak and having it is essential.

Looking forward to hearing Splat w/ external sc.

Loving Splat and Glue on drums here. Congrats on an awesome plugin!
I demo'd about 10 plugins over the last week and yours makes the
BUY list.

Sidechaining could really offer a lot of functionality...
..but honestly being a greedy learner I actually posted to ask on what kind of sidechaining would you ,it's creator, do with the UBK-1 ?

Well, I'm doing up a few beat-focused demos, so sidechaining things to the kick is essential in most of those genres these days.

I love sidechaining backing vox to the primary vox, it makes them move with all the nuances of the primary vocal.

Sidechain acoustic guitars to the snare (and maybe kick as well) for extra syncopation.

Sidechain an effect to the element that's feeding it so that it sucks up into the spaces in between the element but stays out of the way when the element is sounding.

Sidechain the whole mix sans vocal to a mix + vocal-up bus.

Thank you for answering! Some really nice suggestions in there.
Always forget to try the sidechaining of a send thanks for reminding me of that one.

Don't really understand the last one (I can't picture exactly what happens).. does that create space for the vocal?

Anyway I do mostly electronic music and sometimes I use envelopes (like LFO Tool) for dynamic ducking of audio so I can have full control over the curve.

This has led to a better understanding of how compressors can sound amazingly different with just a bit of a difference in their compression curves.

Best

Your EULA is really great Gregory.

One thing that I don't like about the installer though.
A folder named "Kush" is created in the root of the system drive when installing the UBK-1 on OS X.
That's not good practice. The installer should create that folder inside the Library/Application Support folder instead.

Thanks for a great plug-in and I hope you'll get on with the 64-bit version real soon!

I've been wanting to save up for a ubk fatso for a while but I am just finally getting out of debt. I have no problem at all mixing ITB and record mostly hardcore and acoustic music. I wanted the fatso mostly for parallel compression on drums and vocals (maybe electric guitar too). How does the plug in compare to the real thing? I'm doing the studio thing full time now but the business is still pretty new so I'm trying to get the most for my money. This plug in seems like a god send to me right now.

UBK-1 AU and Plogue Bidule: possible?

Has anyone successfully used the UBK-1 AU version in Plogue Bidule? I wanted to be smart and not wait for the release of the VST version of UBK-1, but instead use it in Bidule. For some reason the Bidule doesn't recognize UBK-1. There is nothing wrong with the installation because UBK-1 works in Mainstage. As always, any input will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jack

So a few thoughts. Understand about debt, probably more important to deal with than acquiring any gear. I might be banned for such heresy, but I say pay that beeatch down first! As for your fatso v ubk-1 considerations: The ubk-1 is its own thing but can give you some of what I think you'd be looking for out of the ubk fatso. It's own bag of tricks is worth buying it on its own merits. It's 15x cheaper at the moment. Try it and hopefully you two will gel. It's a great piece of software.
That being said, the ubk fatso is worth every penny and more and would be the last piece of gear I'd part with. So start with the ubk-1, enjoy it for what it uniquely brings to the table, pay that debt the f down, save a few scheckles, and give the ubk fatso a happy home in time.

I have only tried my UBK-1 out for a few minutes, but I very much doubt it will replace my UBK fatso. The compression seems way too heavy handed for the master bus. I think the plugin goes on separate tracks and the hardware on the master bus. :-) It's, to me, an effects plug that dares go where few plugs have been before, as well as a character plugin. Could work for the 2-bus if the mix is weak sounding... :-)

Wow Greg... you should have named this thing "the UBK Secret Sauce".

I have a slow jam where the drums were just not splatty enough... this did it. Best $149 I have spent, this could easily go for double. Or triple. Well done!

Now I need to try out the UBK Fatso...
