Hardware Rupert Neve Designs PORTICO 5045 Primary Source Enhancer

The 5045 Primary Source Enhancer is a two channel device that is exceptionally useful at reducing feedback, effectively increasing the level a microphone can be raised before feedback occurs in a live sound environment by up to 20dB, without negatively impacting the sonic integrity of the source signal. With controls that are very simply laid out and generally require minimal adjustment, the 5045 is an invaluable tool for churches, stadiums, performance halls, or any venue where feedback is problematic.

Most likely he had less to do with it and others like Hutch has his hand in this.

This is actually something Rupert has had for a good while now, but it didn't come out because it is so different (see strange comment above). From what I've heard back through Yamaha Commercial Audio (they do the distribution of the 45 in the US and Canada), they have been a big hit in the large venue live market, and they have already been installed at a number of stadiums, arenas and large churches for the trickiest feedback situations (think on field ref mic, live choir mics, lecterns, or anytime the performer goes in front of the mains).

Here's a blog post from an end user that details his experiences with the 5045, with another user's video of the 5045 in action at the bottom of the page: Primary Source Enhancement

I sure wish ALL the Portico line was a full rack space!

I never understood the reasoning behind the 1/2 space...

The reason as I understand it is so they fit into the 5088 console in vertical format.
