Mackie Increases Mixer Performance
With New Op-Amp Design
Partners with New Japan Radio on Design

Mackie announces a partnership with New Japan Radio Corporation to develop a new op-amp exclusively for Mackie mixers. The new M-80 op-amp performs exceptionally well, offering low noise, high drive and class-leading channel separation. Implementation into the existing Onyx, VLZ3 and ProFX series mixers is currently in progress.

The M-80 op-amp is an improved version of the NJM4580, utilizing additional technology derived from NJR’s flagship “MUSES” series sound op-amps. Aside from increased performance specs, the M-80 op-amp also features the Mackie “Running Man” logo.

The new M-80 op-amp will be on display during NAMM in Mackie’s upstairs showroom in Demo Room 209A/B from January 19-22, 2012 in Anaheim, CA.

Probably would have been helpful to learn of this prior to January 25th... like when NAMM was actually going on

I saw it there. It changed my whole outlook on life. Well...not really. But it has the Mackie logo, for those who want to destroy their mixers and look inside.

"The new M-80 op-amp performs exceptionally well, offering low noise, high drive and class-leading channel separation."

Well, in the ads for their existing Onyx mixers Mackie already claims

"The Mackie Onyx 24.4 leaves the competition in the dust when it comes to sound quality."

and

"the Onyx 24.4 gives you big, full-range sound and even lower noise than esoteric mixing consoles costing much more."

So now they will be even better than the best (i.e. Mackie themselves) or have they been cheating us until now?

Yes, I always wonder when something's "new and improved" if the version before that was.. less improved? Anyway, I got a Mackie Onyx 800R and the preamps in there aren't bad. Not something to get excited about, but really: not bad at all.
So if the new designs are as usable, I'm all for it.
