Hardware "For the first time in the history of mankind ...

Hi there,

I am very happy to announce, that my Tera-Player is now shipping.

The Tera-Player is a pocket size music player, that can playback 16/24bit wav files with the follwing sample-rates: 44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4 and 192 kHz.

It is built around a NOS Philips DAC comparable to that of my Attraction DAC and features raw data playback (no oversampling, no digital filters).

It currently supports SDHC cards with 4/8/16/32 GB capacity and ... what's most important and the main reason I created it:

It sounds great

Charles

I knew that compact devices would eventually move away from compressed audio files. Even apple offers a Lossless file solution. With drives getting smaller in size while growing in capacity you'll be able to see 5000-10,000 songs on a player in 24bit/44.1k resolution and higher.

I'm waiting for the day when I can bounce a mix at say 24bit/96k and know that it very well may stay that way.

Charles: Respectfully, if you're going for a high-end market --- which you are, unquestionably --- I suggest you reconsider the aesthetics of your presentation.

It may sound like God, but the feel is off.

You can't ask for that kinda dough and tell me it doesn't matter

This thing may sound lovely, but it looks like you put no consideration into it as a product. If there's anything to be learned from Apple's global ascent, it's that people appreciate beauty in their day to day lives.

Re-design. Work with a great designer and refashion it as a product. You'll thank me later.

I second that one! And design doesn't have to be fancy, simple is ok, but it needs a certain level of style or charm!!!

Its been reported that everything you play through this is guaranteed to go platinum. With its ability to only play greatness if you try to play a Justin Beiber song it turns itself off.

I don't see the "Stand out point".

If I can get an Ipod Nano at the same size, why I should get this?
I don't see a touch screen on it or the ease of use?

Seriously??? Over 1k US dollars??? I agree with the other comments about the aesthetics as well - it really is poor looking. Furthermore ALAC, aiff & wav files are playable on ipods. ALAC being preferable as wav files don't really hold the meta data to really create a workable media library.

Yep 100%!

The card should not stick out like this, the whole case material, finish and design is substandard for a high end player as advertised.

Charles, you are apparently a good engineer, but leave the product design and marketing to Pros as well, the website is like the prototype presentation, no good! It would be a shame if you ruin your potential market.

Ich meine es gut mit dir!

Hi Georg,

thanks for your comments.

The card must stick out a little bit, else you cannot pull it out. A push/pull socket is not available with standoffs, and inside the Tera-Player the area below the SDHC card is populated with electronics, so a standoff card connector had to be used.

The case material is completely aluminum and the player is extremely rugged. I wanted it this way. If you hold it in your hand, you will feel the hefty built-quality, but that's not the point, the point is the sound quality.

It is also the smallest player with 24/192 playback. It beats competition not only in size and sheer sound-quality but also in playback time.

Ehhh, your about 14 years too late. Some unknown bloke called Yobbs made some kind of small portable music player which somehow became rather popular.

and its sound gave me a good headache, which is the reason that the Tera-Player was created ... with some delay though ... good things just take some time

Hey, I take no pleasure in putting you down; I like your sound-quality-is-important value system.

You just have to follow through. Otherwise none of us can respect this product.

Please heed this advice.

A small touchscreen with a simple UI and a inlay for the finger in order to take the sd card out might solve some of the "faults" appointed before..(with a thicker side panel you might be able to do it.. I attach a pic to let you understand what I mean..

Good luck and kudos to you for taking the time to bulid YOUR player.

to the OP (and without any envy to piss any body) :

the look and feel of this little box is totally unlinked to its price,

the main issue, due to the way you make them, any enhancement may imply an upper selling price too,

may be selling DIY kit at lower price is a better way to attract potential customers ?

I'm really annoyed because I feel all the effort you took to create this but don't see who want to buy it,

850 e is trully expensive for a PCM player nowadays, even if the audio quality is superior

I can't take it anymore, what gives you the God damn nerve to charge that much. Some people get your whole idea around quality and guess what, so do I. My main issue and why I take your entire product as a complete joke, no wrong term a damn scam.

A sm57 is $100 and the cost is about $65 to the dealer which means they pay someone to make the mic around $40 and the actual cost in parts is maybe $10. So overall I'd say the facorty makes $5-10 a mic in profit, at $100 that would be a 1000% or close to mark up... but there are tons of people involved. My guess is you have an 800% or close to mark up with no middle man just you, seems greedy. Wouldn't surprise me if you could build one for way less than I am thinking but my guess is $80-$100 so I am being generous.

Can you at least prove to us it cost you at least $650 (convert my dollar) to build. And of you can or cant, can you also explain how you felt it was worth that. price
