MOTU Digital Performer 8 goes 64bit and windows! That's the big news on MOTU booth.

"Magic" Dave has shown news effects (with a Vox AC-30ans some Electro Harmonix emulations), new skins, and 64bit mode on Mac OSX.
Finally, Motu also announces Windows Compatibility for Digital Performer 8! More informations very soon.

good stuff. makes me laugh because it was just reading a dumb ass thread a couple days ago about how people were arguing over 32 bit and more cores/ram. One guy said it doesn't matter and that DP wasn't even 64 bit. I hope Avid shows up with a 64 bit solution now instead of later.

This in tandem with Apples handling of Logic might just be the ticket to catapulting DP back into the mainstream DAW spotlight.

Really hope this version adds some significant features for quantizing, relative/absolute grids, and PLEASE let this version include MIDI regions......and of course the ability to see ANYTHING on the GUI without needing a magnifying glass!

this is great news.

Does anyone know if any unisyn facilities are included in their DAW?

I can't wait for a demo version for windows, so I can test their OSC features. Probably first major DAW with this implementation.

With 64 bit coming, I think a ton of RAM is in order!

Bravo! Looking for the release date...

Has anyone attended the MOTU presentation? Anyone have more info about the other new stuff in DP8? The new plug-ins? The new video engine? The new skins? Any other workflow improvements/optimizations? Any other news?

And how about the other MOTU announcements, CueMix control for iPad? New Audio Interface?

Interesting news to say the least. Not really the direction I thought they would have gone though.

Or....try and find some info out for yourself and then share it.
Instead of expecting others to do it for you.

DP!
Good point. More options the better!

Personally, I'm hoping that DP8 has elastic audio. That's one of the (diminishing) reasons for keeping me with Logic.

Hi Graham before I call you an idiot I thought I'd make a few notes such as I'm in Indiana and NOT at NAMM - MOTU has ZERO information on their site about DP8 thus if any information was to be uncovered wouldn't it be at NAMM? Just some things to think about before you respond with your mindless comments. So now comes the time that I in fact do call you an idiot - Idiot.

So now will this resurface the 'argument' that DP sounds terrible compared to other DAW's? I recall some long thread on here about the sound of DP in which the consensus was a 'thin & narrow' sound.

From what I've gathered, there aren't too many new 'features'. Mainly the same as DP7 with 64bit/windows compatibility. Some new plugins, and some new video engine features..... maybe to do with streamers and punches?

Hopefully I'm wrong and they've actually made some improvements to the general workflow. Obviously we have to wait and see for sure, but that seems to be the consensus.

Can we have a thread without MOTU bashing for no apparent reason? In addition we are talking about a product that's not out yet. Basic rule of thumb- if you haven't used it, don't dump on it. Makes sense, yes?

A focus on info would be great. Speculation, sure, also great in lieu of info. In time we'll all have plenty to add and disagree on- yay!

Bonus: How about a GS thread without snarkiness? That would be great, too.

Just one man's plea(s)

Peace

I used Performer/DP from about 1992 forward. Just recently switched to Logic for no particular reason after some time off from the bizz and getting a new Mac. Just thought I see what all the hype about LP was.

I always loved DP and never had any complaints about it. Looking forward to upgrading my old version to the new and mixing in it again.

Well, I'm in Stockholm, Sweden. Couldn't afford to go to Anaheim to attend NAMM myself, or I would. Sorry.

MOTU also very rarely update their page with products that are not shipping, so odds are we won't here anything about DP8 from them other than at namm until it ships in march...

Well, and that info is about the only thing that's on the net right now. And is the same info everyone is posting everywhere, so it's not very useful... And you included a link that leads to no further info, that is what you consider genius?
