Tascam DP-24 Solid State Portastudio

For all the "low end theory" Portastudio lovers out there:

Product: DP-24 | TASCAM

Records to SD card. Also has a color LCD and dedicated channel strip. Not sure if records via .wav or still records via Tascam's proprietary format. Cheers!

This is kinda awesome. And look: a hardware product that doesn't have an iPad / iPhone dock! The DP-02 was actually a pretty nice Portastudio (decent sound, good reverb), i just wish i had more than 2 inputs; but here we go.

I agree....it looks very cool for a "Portastudio" type device. I really hope Tascam has ditched their proprietary recording format for this recorder (that makes digital Portastudio to PC [and back] track transfers so slowwwww...) and enabled .WAV recording on this unit. If so...this looks like it might be fun to own. Cheers!

Yay, MIDI connectors. So hopefully it will sync with MIDI timecode (so I can sync my sequencer to it) and KNOBS! nothing worse than using a portastudio without any knobs.

Have any pros here taken their "good" converter and recorded some stuff, then done the same with a recent Portastudio and compared? I'm curious if there is a major quality difference.

It would be more practical on your part,to either not even consider a multi-track recorder under a $1,000...or just concern yourself with the quality of the a/d converts in your equipment,as well as the a/d converters in the Tascam.

If all said a/d converters are clean enough, you won't be able to hear the difference between analogue & digital.

Just some food for thought...

From what I've read, it seems to record in .wav format.

The main volume controls both headphones and main monitor l and r outs, but in the manual I've seen no mute button for main monitor outs. Looks like a cool piece for simplified recording, interesting color scheme, wonder if you can send tracks out those two effect sends and back for procesing in real time.

Do you mean send audio out fx send and back into the Tascam audio inputs to record and add more processing ?
What a great idea but will it work ?
