NAMM 2012 year of the iPOD Dock

More like ipad.

I don't own an ipad but I have to admit there's something nice about keeping things simplistic when laying down tunes.

To me there are two huge issues with it though
1. Latency, not sure about midi in latency numbers but midi out is only over wifi which has always showed noticable latency with all the demos I've seen.
2. Ipads become obsolete quicker than a computer. Who knows if the ipad of this year will have the same form factor or connections as the ipad of next year which introduces all kinds of problems with new/old apps and interfaces. There are apps already that the ipad 1 doesn't support.

Either way I may get an ipad just for fun, mobile work on the metro, and surfing the internet.

Still I'd rather throw 500 at an analog synth.

I disagree with a few points you've made, but the easiest one I'll share is that you CAN use midi via a USB cable using many apps, my favorite being lemur.

The iPad2 is an amazing device, different mission than a laptop.
With the apps to control protools/daws/mixers wirelessly and music apps such as korgs Ikaossolator, it's very addictive fun!!
